Boehner: Obama Health-Care Speech Will Try to Put Lipstick on this Pig Wednesday, September 09, 2009 By Nicholas Ballasy and Edwin Mora
Washington (CNSNews.com House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) said Wednesday that President Obama will try to put lipstick on this pig and call it something else when the president addresses Congress tonight on health-care reform.
I think were all interested in what he (Obama) has to say, but I hope hes been listening to the American people, Boehner told reporters. I think over the course of August theyve raised their voices loud and clear that they dont want this massive government takeover of our health-care system.
Boehner added: It appears that the president is going to double-down tonight and try to put lipstick on this pig and call it something else and its a phrase thats used around here many times, but it appears the presidents going down this path.

Exactly. I don’t care how much he repackages this, it’s still a non-starter.
The GOP response had better be concise and exceptional, because this is a political gift of a lifetime. American health care is the envy of the world and this economic illiterate - who has never worked a day in his life in the private sector — wants to destroy it.
Funny, funny day today. First Andrea Mitchell, cheerleader undercover pretending to be a journalist, expresses deep worry whether the president's teleprompter will work. Now Mr Boehner takes a cue from Gov Palin about the lipstick. We are receiving the opportunity to laugh today. Isolate. Ridicule. Point fingers. Laugh.
Now WHY did that pipsqueak little rodent use THAT example???
HUH????
Boehner and McConnell should be flushed down the drain along with McCain.
They HELPED the Democrats win with their incompetence.
I had not considered that but you are right. I hope the Republicans put a lot of time and thought into the response. It could very well be the most watched response in a while. It could also really rev folks up if the same droning message is spewed and angers folks. Pence or Palin should give the rebuttal. (Can Palin do that?)
Good one Boehner.
Nothing like taking a LIB funny and spitting it back in their face.
Blame Hastert not Boehner. Boehner has never been Speaker. Hastert retired 8/17/2007 after we lost the House in Nov 2006.
Before commenting why not do some research and find out he was NEVER Speaker. Putting them all in the same basket without the facts is not right. Boehner was not a huge McCain fan and if you think he was, then you don’t have a clue about Boehner and who he is.
Boehner has continually gone against Pelosi including reading cap and trade on the floor when it had just come out the night before. He kept the entire GOP caucus voting against the Obama stimulus and all but 8 voted against Cap and Trade. With his own people instead of Hastert’s, Boehner has done much better this session. In the previous session, he had to confront being undermined by Hastert people all the time.
“Nothing like taking a LIB funny and spitting it back in their face.”
That’s what I was thinking. I loved it.
I have HAD it with the national GOP Leadership.
Boehner was in charge of the House when we lost MORE seats in 2008. That’s enough reason for me to dislike him, ditto McConnell.
As for Hastert, I totally agree with you.
With very few exceptions, the GOP leadership in Congress is bankrupt. WE deserve better.
Senile old clowns like Hatch and Grassley should have been flushed out of office long ago. They are liviong breathing advertisements for term limits.
We are at war with the Democrats ideologically for the heart and soul of America and we can’t afford self-serving, smug, elitist professional career politicians screwing up effective leadership in that war anymore.
There should be no margin for failure.
