PARIS, France (CNN) -- Former first lady Laura Bush praised the performance of her husband's successor Monday, breaking with many Republicans in telling CNN that she thinks President Obama is doing a good job under tough circumstances.

Marxists don’t play nice.
“I do appreciate her for never embarrassing us.”
I don’t know about anyone else, but THIS embarrasses me. She is criticizing AMERICANS just like the bam does.
Oh...it’s just not fair that we criticize a socialist/communist/marxist/muslim usurper...us being redneck racists and unintelligent hicks and all.
Has she dyed her hair blonde?
Remember - Moe, Larry and Curley.
Lol, to funny. I wonder what planet the Bushes are from? Real unemployment 16%, millions of lost homes and millions more to go, retail sales down, XMas sales looking bleak, dollar being abandoned on world market, etc, etc, etc. Yeah BO is doing a great job.
Laura Bush is a lady of true dignity and civility. She understands that political differences need not entail personal hate, and that public discourse can be conducted in an atmosphere of mutual repect.
+++ ++++ ++++
She is L-I-B-E-R-A-L ! Pro-choice.
She might be nice but she is WRONG, WRONG, WRONG.
F#$% that. Democrats want war, they are going to get it.
Well said. She is on foreign soil and unlike others does not speak ill of the President or criticize his program while a guest in another country.
She had good words for Vice President Cheney and sets the standard for how dignitaries should conduct themselves. She has been through it and watched President Bush endure the partisan rhetoric.
Let’s see Michelle Obama get classy with some kisses blown Dubya’s way in exchange. We can understand John McCain having Stockholm Syndrome. But Laura Bush?
While I think Laura is insane, this does indeed demonstrate the vast difference between the Bush family and most all Democrats -
The Clintons and Carter never gave GW any slack at all - constantly blasting him at every turn.
Now the shoes are reversed, and Laura shows something vastly difference.
she didn’t have to say anything!
Perhaps I should have said “irony” tag? Either way, I didn’t get the drift that you “like” either Bush.
I thought I read she was being interviewed.
NO.
Take 8 minutes and WATCH THE INTERVIEW.
She is in France. It would be completely out of line for her — or any First Lady or former President — to criticize our country or its leadership when on foreign soil.
She merely answers questions, some of them attempted “gotchas,” and she does it well. This was an interview, not a speech.
She deftly sidesteps the potholes, praises Dick Cheney, says all the right Mom things about “making a home for your family” and wishing the political bickering wasn’t so bad, and gives gracious, intelligent answers.
No way does she criticize Americans at all.
Always knew she was a lib.
How pointless; what do they expect her to say? Bash and trash the current President? She has dignity and grace - and knows what is appropriate.
this is the traditional response from previous administration heads and their families....
....Unless you’re a liberal...
It’s too bad that her “socialist-lite” husband wasn’t a bit more partisan, particularly when it came to domestic issues. He is part of the reason that conservatives started leaving the republican party.
Yes, LB has dignity and civility. However, it does not appear she has the wisdom to be evaluating the performance of a President of the U.S. This is one reason I believe people should not be selecting someone for a job (ie., voting) unless they know the job responsibilities and powers of the job for which they are choosing a job holder.
BO should have been considered for the job of spokesperson, not leader and decision maker. He seems qualified for the former but has no record of ability for the latter. He should be applauded for his speaking abilities. He should not, however, be in the position he is in. This is the consequence of people voting for someone because his presentation is good but failing to scrutinize the substance of his presentation. Of course, having massive amounts of funding and several free advertising agencies masquerading as “news organizations” helps make such things happen.
This reminds me of people in a particular third world nation who vote for action hero actors because of the brave heroic characters they play in the movies. Once in office, these actors are hopeless.
