What a difference a month makes! When my last controversial column posted on Salon in the second week of August, most Democrats seemed frozen in suspended animation, not daring to criticize the Obama administration's bungling of healthcare reform lest it give aid and comfort to the GOP. Well, that ice dam sure broke with a roar. Dissident Democrats found their voices, and by late August even the liberal lemmings of the mainstream media, from CBS to CNN, had drastically altered their tone of reportage, from priggish disdain of the town hall insurgency to frank admission of serious problems in the healthcare bills as well as of Obama's declining national support.
But this tonic dose of truth-telling may be too little too late. As an Obama supporter and contributor, I am outraged at the slowness with which the standing army of Democratic consultants and commentators publicly expressed discontent with the administration's strategic missteps this year. I suspect there had been private grumbling all along, but the media warhorses failed to speak out when they should have -- from week one after the inauguration, when Obama went flat as a rug in letting Congress pass that obscenely bloated stimulus package. Had more Democrats protested, the administration would have felt less arrogantly emboldened to jam through a cap-and-trade bill whose costs have made it virtually impossible for an alarmed public to accept the gargantuan expenses of national healthcare reform. (Who is naive enough to believe that Obama's plan would be deficit-neutral? Or that major cuts could be achieved without drastic rationing?)
By foolishly trying to reduce all objections to healthcare reform to the malevolence of obstructionist Republicans, Democrats have managed to destroy the national coalition that elected Obama and that is unlikely to be repaired.

This is what Obama is going to say tonight:
It was just reported on the 11am news that Obama believes that the "PUBLIC OPTION" i.e., GOVERNMENT RUN, SINGLE- PAYER DEATH CARE MUST BE AN ESSENTIAL PART OF HIS DEATH CARE BILL and Obama said the "THE MAJORITY OF AMERICANS SUPPORT THE PUBLIC OPTION"!
This is what Obama is going to press home and try to force down our throats tonight during the prime-time arm twisting speech! Obama is DELUSIONAL!
Yes.
This is Bubba Redux.
If Mr. Obama cannot explain this plan by now, he never will.
Good to see some from the left also bashing Obama’s program and tactics. Every little bit helps.
The comments are entertaining. Even some Salon readers aren’t buying Obamacare.
Oh dear. MSM manages to tick off the Left with its non-coverage, its fawning coverage, and its misrepresentation.
Not Bubba, he and biden have lost Imus - see his interview.
He thinks while both are nice guys, neither have a clue of what they are doing and have lied to the American people.
Ford said when he lost Conkrite, he lost the country - Imus and Obama, while both neither the caliber of the previous is a microcosm and he has lost a lot of the liberal new england area.
We've all been predicting this ever since Pelosi's first anti-"teabag" rant. Maybe not in these exact words, but basically that the Dems were going to pay for talking down to all those angry voters. Camille has suceeded in going beyond the "denial" stage, she's on the road to healing.... ROFLMAO
When has that ever mattered to a liberal?
Never until they’re out of office.
obama got the benefit of the doubt in the last election.
The undecided/independants were certain all the mean things Conservatives were saying about him, “couldn’t possibly be true...”
He no longer has the benefit of the doubt....
He did so again on Monday night (9/07/09) when he said that the GOP plan for Health Care was "to do nothing", that they, "didn't have a plan." When he knows good and well that they do, and that plans have been put forward in the House and the Senate that have been ignored by the DNC and by himself.
Our nation is in one of the fights of it's life. It is a fight ultimnately for our liberty and very life. It is a political fight, it is a fight of ideas, and it is a spiritual fight.
"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." - Ephesians 6:12
As time goes on, and as more and more Americans simply refuse to be quiet and accept what the Obama administration and the DNC leadership propose, the fact of the coupled physical and spiritual nature of it becomes more evident. The lies and deception of the Obama administration and the DNC leadership are becoming more and more apparent.
Here is what Obama said to the American people at a contrived "town hall" in New Hampshire on Tuesday, August 11, 2009.
"I have not said that I was a single payer supporter. Pres. Barack Hussein Obama, Aug 11, 2009
Compare that to what he said while campaigning for the Senate to his union supporters, and was cheered while so doing:
I happen to be a proponent of a single-payer universal health care program. I see no reason why the United States of America, the wealthiest country in the history of the world, spending 14 percent of its gross national product on health care, cannot provide basic health insurance to everybody. And thats what Jim is talking about when he says everybody in, nobody out. A single-payer health care plan, a universal health care plan. Thats what Id like to see. But as all of you know, we may not get there immediately. Because first weve got to take back the White House, weve got to take back the Senate, and weve got to take back the House. - Barack Hussein Obama, June 30, 2003 to AFL-CIO
I guess he thinks he can say whatever he wants at any given time and it will be truth. That is the definition of a pathological liar.

He and those around him and supporting him are drunk with power and control, and so they demonize the opposition, rather than seeing it for what it is, a massive outcry from the people of this nation, right before their very eyes, over their monstrosity plans for health care.
Their pronouncements and actions are like every other repressive, tin-horn regime in history. Label the opposition with exactly what they themselves are doing and then use the government controlled and co-opted press to spread that lie, and then use their thugs to try and enforce it and stamp out dissent.
Well, not any more in this country. The health care debate has blown the lid off and it's time to carry it through on this issue and every other similiar issue (like Cap & Trade, FOCA, etc.) that these wanna-be tyrants propose.
President Barack Hussein Obama said on August 7, 2009, that he expected the people who caused the financial and health care mess to be quiet, stand out of the way, and let it be fixed.
Well, Mr. President, if you do not want the people who created this mess standing in the way of fixing it, then you, Mr. Obama...and Pelosi, Reid, Dodd, Frank, et all had best step out of the way yourselves. Because you not only helped engineer the problems that ensured the fiasco...you are now intent on making it immeasurably worse in your drive towards abject marxism.

This article says a lot of very good and useful things, about both R's and D's ...
But it is stunningly myopic on a number of points. Her diatribe on Afghanistan, for example; and also her discussion of "liberty," in the context of current Democrat politics.
She is simply avoiding the obvious conclusions.

Thanks.
It was President Johnson who made the comment about Cronkite...after the so-called Tet Offensive. Big victory for the Americans...but the media...including Mr. Cronkite portrayed it as a defeat.
What interview?
Yep, too late to turn around because he Intend to run straight off the Cliff.
She also understands Republican pathologies, which is frightening, as evidenced here:
"At this point, Democrats' main hope for the 2012 presidential election is that Republicans nominate another hopelessly feeble candidate. Given the GOP's facility for shooting itself in the foot, that may well happen."
Will read Camille ... later. She always irritates me, but she is fearless, intelligent and usually makes sense.
