GANJGAL, Afghanistan We walked into a trap, a killing zone of relentless gunfire and rocket barrages from Afghan insurgents hidden in the mountainsides and in a fortress-like village where women and children were replenishing their ammunition.
"We will do to you what we did to the Russians," the insurgent's leader boasted over the radio, referring to the failure of Soviet troops to capture Ganjgal during the 1979-89 Soviet occupation.
Dashing from boulder to boulder, diving into trenches and ducking behind stone walls as the insurgents maneuvered to outflank us, we waited more than an hour for U.S. helicopters to arrive, despite earlier assurances that air cover would be five minutes away.
U.S. commanders, citing new rules to avoid civilian casualties, rejected repeated calls to unleash artillery rounds at attackers dug into the slopes and tree lines despite being told repeatedly that they weren't near the village.

I want to see the calls for hearings by McCain and the other gop senators/house reps!!! Just emailed such
gibson said enough already
More troops are not going to do the trick if Obama is not going to allow them to win the war ie...shoot back! I have talked to most of the repuplican Senator’s offices on the Armed Services Committee this morning and the only one so far that was really willing to listen and showed interest was Roger Wicker’s office. He will do something about this if we all call:

I was most disappointed in Sen Thune’s office btw. The girl was a ditz and cold. Not good.
I was in high school when the Marine barracks was bombed, and I was being courted heavily by one of the U.S. military academies at the time. The bullsh!t surrounding that whole military campaign in Lebanon was the single biggest reason why I refused to apply to the academy -- or even consider a military career.
And this was during the REAGAN administration, mind you.
The Generals/officers need a comeuppance .. inexcusable engagement rules must cease!
Blast 'em
Those poor guys. Prayers for their families.
Just call them. I finally got through a minute ago.

Major speeches in the last month? This a-hole needs his own channel.
He is on TV damn near every day and sometimes twice as day.
He started his own sitcom back when he invented the “Office of the President Elect”.
Oh! And good news. He is having another Telethon tonight!
Yeahhhh!
It is going to become pretty clear to the Sheehan types and Hufpo’s that they are going to have to co-opt their own slogan and apply it to this moron:
Obama Lied, Soldiers died.
Get banned? Your post was right on and not even close to banning material.
Speak your mind freely, This is Free Republic.
This is my child next year, as he will be sent into Afg. To say that I am livid would be an understatement!
Well the thing is, it is a vital and strategic interest to the Soviets or now Russians.
They have wanted to put a pipeline through Afghanistan for some 30 years.
We denied them that opportunity in the 80’s and we are stuck with continuing to deny them economic tools.
Sadly.
Yeah, because now everything is in “Barack-O-Color”
Just contacted Jim “Baby Face” Webb with this:
http://www.miamiherald.com/news/world/AP/story/1223813.html
I hope you’re enjoying you little Asian holiday, Mr. Webb, but you sure don’t seem to be doing much to protect our troops. If you support the troops, as you claim you do, then you should see to it that they have the proper support and capabilities in combat.
It is difficult for me to understand why we are being so careful not to harm innocents in Afghanistan that our own troops are dying. You know it’s wrong to let our guys start at a disadvantage because of rules that no one else follows.
Your pal Obama has been in office for the better part of a year now and I don’t recall him saying a damn thing about this war. He can’t shut his mouth about healthcare, but our troops aren’t worthy of his time. Are we just going to pretend this war doesn’t exist?
The new GI Bill is great. But how are they going to take advantage of it if they’re dead?
Don’t you dare send me a form letter response. You work for us, Mr. Webb. Remember that.
Just come home....the REAL threat to our freedom is HERE anyway.
(Here's one for the "truthers" to chew on...Russia goes into Afghanistan, get's their arse kicked...Putin, wanting to restore "soviet style" pride after an embarrassing defeat, arranges with his KGB buddies(and Soros)a plan to use the name of an infamous terrorist(Osama)and plans the attack on the US, not only to disrupt our financial system(and profit through inside information)but to get us to fight their war for them...win-win for them...blood and treasury spent for U.S.)
Now that's more believable than Bush bringing down Building #7 with controlled demolition...isn't it? /s
Wouldn't contacting General Gates, and the Department of defense, nd our state congressmen and senators and whoever else we can think of, that is responsible for these lack of actions and response?
The rules of engagement and the process of assessing the situation is NOT satisfactory or effective enough.
Changes must be made; not excuses.
Since the media did not pick this up, it is up to the armed forces families, friends, former marines, etc. to make a big flap about this. MO
God help us in our day, in Jesus name. Amen.
That’s a great idea. I love Charlie Daniels. He is a GREAT AMERICAN!!
democRats hate the troops.
