SMYRNA, Tenn. -- Two parents have said the juvenile court system treated their son like a killer instead of an honor student who got a traffic ticket.
Police arrested, handcuffed, shackled and jailed the teenager because he didn't show up for court. Zachary Dubwe is a Smyrna High School honor student and not a habitual offender.
"Our child was leading our subdivision to go to school, and he didn't come to a complete stop at a stop sign in our subdivision," said Steve Townley, the boy's father.
The couple told the teen to keep track of his court date. They said he went to court, asked for a hearing, but then put the wrong hearing date on his calendar.

Rampant entitlement culture. Write down the right date and this wouldn't have happened.
Big deal. I’ve heard of Assistant DAs get locked up for contempt of court. Some judges just don’t mess around.
Bet they are Dumbo supporters too.
Dear Parents, if you don’t teach your children about consequences, the world will......eventually.
An irresponsible honor student. Who’da thunk it?
agreed....he did not spend 30 hours in jail for a traffic ticket...a bench warrant was issued for his arrest for failure to appear...not the judges fault, not the cops fault, but HIS fault......like you said, boo friggin hoo
It’s all about money in our corrupt court system.
Why didn't you pay the ticket dumba##?
“Our child was leading our subdivision to go to school....

What? Well let him off, then, if he was taking the entire neighborhood to school. I think the idiot reporter meant to put “leaving” and not “leading”. Who writes this stuff?
As for the perp, how does being an honor student make one above the law?
I guess he will never miss another court date now will he?
I’ll bet he will keep up with his court date next time, won’t he.
Yea that $10 ticket is so indicative of a "corrupt court system"!
The parents didn’t like their lil darling getting locked up. Bet he comes to a stop now though huh.
(laughing at him, not with him)
That's what they send Dog out to get you for.
Failure to appear.
Also, sounds like the kid was being a real smartass asking for a court trial for a $10 ticket.
I went to the link and read the whole thing. The treatment of the kid was over the top for a traffic ticket and missed court date. Too bad it wasn’t for drugs. He’d have been released in a few hours.
The parents should be locked up for letting their kid go to court over a $10 ticket.
It all was real simple to avoid, make sure the kid pays the $10 ticket and tell him to quit rolling stop signs.
This whole thing points to the parents being stupid!
Several years ago, I had a friend who was arrested for a bar fight, I went to court with him and a deal had already been made with the prosecutor, fine and probation.
The judge told my friend, "I understand that you were agry but after you hit him once and knocked him down, why did you hit him again?"
My friends answer was, "He was still twitching"
It cost him two weeks in the county jail.
Don't be a smart ass with a judge.
“Also, sounds like the kid was being a real smartass asking for a court trial for a $10 ticket.”
So let me understand your reasoning — are you proposing that if a criminal charge is “light” enough, then the accused doesn’t have a right to contest the charge and should be automatically guilty?
If you aren’t, then please explain your post above, or else retract it.
