In a nationally televised event, President Obama plans to speak before a joint session of Congress Wednesday evening. Here is what I have read about the reason for the speech: "The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday that Obama’s planned address to a joint session of Congress this week “will insert the president into the heated debate in a way he has avoided all summer.” The Washington Post informed readers that the “White House is scrambling to take control of the health-care debate after watching from the sidelines.”

If Opie isn't willing to start with Tort Reform, than he isn't serious about reducing Health Care Costs and it's all about politics.

Don’t you love the spin?

Oh...just us chickens at the White House. We haven’t been involved yet!

Text of an email I received:

When a company falls on difficult times, one of the things that seems to happen is they reduce their staff and workers. The remaining workers must find ways to continue to do a good job or risk that their job would be eliminated as well..

Wall street, and the media normally congratulate the CEO for making this type of “tough decision”, and his board of directors gives him a big bonus.

Our government should not be immune from similar risks.

Therefore:
Reduce the House of Representatives from the current 435 members to 218 members.
Reduce Senate members from 100 to 50 (one per State).
Then, reduce their staff by 25%.

Accomplish this over the next 8 years
(two steps/two elections) and of course this would require some redistricting.

Some Yearly Monetary Gains Include:

$44,108,400 for elimination of base pay for congress. (267 members X $165,200 pay/member/ yr.)

$97,175,000 for elimination of their staff. (estimate $1.3 Million in staff per each member of the House, and $3 Million in staff per each member of the Senate every year)

$240,294 for the reduction in remaining staff by 25%.

$7,500,000,000 reduction in pork barrel ear-marks each year. (those members whose jobs are gone. Current estimates for 20 total government pork earmarks are at $15 Billion/yr)

The remaining representatives would need to work smarter and improve efficiencies. It might even be in their best interests to work together for the good of our country!

We may also expect that smaller committees might lead to a more efficient resolution of issues as well. It might even be easier to keep track of what your representative is doing.

Congress has more tools available to do their jobs than it had back in 1911 when the current number of representatives was established. (telephone, computers, cell phones to name a few)

Note:
Congress did not hesitate to head home when it was a holiday, when the nation needed a real fix to the economic problems. Also, we had 3 senators that weren’t doing their jobs while on the campaign trail and still they all accepted full pay. These facts alone support a reduction in senators & congress.

Summary of opportunity:

$ 44,108,400 reduction of congress members.

$282,100, 000 for elimination of the reduced house member staff.

$150,000,000 for elimination of reduced senate member staff.

$59,675,000 for 25% reduction of staff for remaining house members.

$37,500,000 for 25% reduction of staff for remaining senate members.

$7,500,000,000 reduction in pork added to bills by the reduction of congress members.

$8,073,383,400 per year, estimated total savings. (that’s 8-BILLION just to start!)

Big business does these types of cuts all the time.

If Congresspersons were required to serve 20, 25 or 30 years (like everyone else) in order to collect retirement benefits, tax payers could save a bundle.
Now they get full retirement after serving only ONE term.

The Note on ABC says it’s there. I read it from the ABC guy on Twitter a few minutes ago. He writes The Note on ABC’s site.

Apparently Olympia Snowe demanded it in exchange for her vote. I have no idea as to how accurate this is.

Regardless, we have to remain vigilante now as the Repubs may cave.

” Hope and Change the channel! What else is on tonight? “

“Blah, blah, blah, crisis, blah, blah, blah, vague generalizations and unsupported allegations, blah, blah, blah, evil Republicans, blah, blah, blah, Bush’s fault..”

There - now ya don’t have to watch the speech... I’m sure there must be a Gilligan’s Island rerun on somewhere....

I am much more bitter towards the enableing fools that put him in office than I am toward hin. Because without his enablers he would be just another turd in the sewer of Chicago politics. They sown to the wind and we will reap the whirlwind.

"When the media sees the popularity of their Messiah sinking like a rock … well it can’t be his policies are bad, or a lack of leadership on his key issues, an inability to effectively communicate with Americans … no … it must be because we are racists."

It's one of the mysteries of the ages. Confusion ask: How can one be enlightened when voting for Dopie Obama, but be racist when becoming disappointed and disillusioned with same Dobie Obama?

“Health care” is one of the reasons that the fools voted for him. Why are they now squalling because he is trying to give it to them?

Tonight will be nothing more than another speech based on fear.

Fear is the weapon obama uses.......crisis fear and destruction.

If people really would listen not just hear, they would see him for the punk his is.

Watching from the sidelines my butt. He jumped in the game and took the ball from a player and shot for the three pointer. He ran onto the field and tackled the guy with the fooball. He jumped over the fence and grabbed a line drive and threw it to third base. (Although he did throw like a girl). He ran on to the field and grabbed a red card from the ref and flagged a socccer player on the team he didn't like.

Dopie sat on the sidelines? Oh puhleeeeeze!

Most of the “guilty whites” that voted for him thought they were buying absolution with his inauguration. They’ve found out that they got ripped off. He took their vote, got inaugurated, and instantly went into “payback” mode. Every policy has been de facto reparations. Every policy has, at its core, the idea of punishing whitey for all slights, real and perceived.

We will probably get to hear this gem from his AFL-CIO speech on All Union Day, "and he repeated his challenge to those critics, saying, "What are you doing to do? What's your answer? What's your solution?"

If he would bother to check on his critics proposals, he would have some very good answers to these inane questions, but ideas are not allowed to come from outside the bubble.
