Climate Change: A team of international scientists has finally figured out why sunspots have a dramatic effect on the weather. It shows the folly of fearing the SUV while dismissing that thermonuclear furnace in the sky.
Our own government is committed to fighting climate change whether it be though Son of Kyoto or our own growth-capping, job-killing cap-and-trade legislation known as Waxman-Markey.
Despite the sun being the major source of all energy on earth, supporters of man-caused global warming have dismissed the sun's role in climate change. They say the historic 11-year solar cycle changes the amount of energy reaching the earth by about only 0.1% not enough to account for temperature rises this century.
The Aug. 28 issue of the journal Science details how the scientific team led by the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), using a century's worth of data and three powerful computer models, figured out just how small changes in solar activity can trigger great changes in earth's climate.
The study found that chemicals in the stratosphere and sea surface temperatures during solar maximums act in a way that amplifies the sun's influence. The slight increase in solar energy in the peak production of sunspots is absorbed by stratospheric ozone, warming the air in the tropics where sunlight is most intense.
The additional energy also helps produce more ozone that absorbs even more solar energy. The increased sunlight causes a slight warming of ocean surface waters across the subtropical Pacific.

Here Comes The Sun

Here Comes the Sun
And I Say
It’s Alright!
The key is that they're using reliable data collected over a century for their modeling, and they aren't trying to make Big-A projections from Big-A assumptions about data derived from sources whose accuracy and error ranges are impossible to calculate accurately. Their modeling is limited in scope to trying to understand the chemistry of our atmosphere and how that chemistry is affected by solar activity.
As I try and explain to people all the time - our atmosphere's chemistry is so poorly understood that climate prediction models in favor of global warming that use human carbon emissions as the cause are based on a simplified model that has the conclusion of carbon emission based global warming built-in to the model. In other words, the models are fixed to produce the predicted result.

How much money can Algore raise by getting credits for claiming he can change the spots on the Sun?
Next we’ll hear about “human-caused” sunspots.
Yep, it’s them rich, white American males, causin’ all them sunspots!!!
And, of course, it’s Bush’s Fault, too!!!!!!
Where has the Global Warming gone?
Long time passing;
Where has the Global Warming Gone?
Long time ago;
Where has the Global Warming Gone?
Vanish’d with the spots on our old Sun;
When will we ever learn?
When will we ever learn?
So, OZONE is one of the culprits! Bring back the CFCs.
So, the slight increase in solar output isn’t enough to make a difference?
Here’s my perspective.
It’s going to be considerably colder here in Wasilla 3 months from now. The sun is going to be in the same spot, the earth is going to be in the same orbit, it’s the same planet fer heavens sake, but I’ll be shoveling snow while some joker in cabo is sipping Coronas on the beach.Granted, I’ll be seeing a lot less of the sun, but by the logic of the warm earthers, there shouldn’t be a difference, right?
I suppose the master plan but the loons will be to shoot icebergs into the sun.
Sort of, but not really.
The Earth's orbit around the sun is variable.
The solar system's position in space vis a vis the galactic plane is variable.
The solar system's position in the galaxy relative to the spiral arms of the galaxy is variable.
The main factors may be the solar magnetic field strength (directly related to sunspots) and the cosmic ray count in the part of the galaxy we are tranversing. The Earth's orbit around the sun may have little effect on climate change compared to how many cosmic rays make it through the solar magnetic shielding.
I’m sure Obama will appoint a sun czar to figure out how to avoid this crisis by taxing sunspots.
