This morning, Steny Hoyer signaled yet again that the public option will get dropped from ObamaCare, even in the House, where a threat from the House Progressive Caucus says that would lose 100 votes on the final product. Hoyer broached the possibility almost three weeks ago, and was roundly criticized by his colleagues for wavering. But does Hoyer represent the mainstream after the August recess?
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer indicated Tuesday that a public option might need to be dropped from the healthcare bill in order to get it passed.
In the final analysis, we have to see what will pass, said Hoyer (D-Md.). I think the public option is a very good choice for consumers to have. On the other hand, Ive said I hope we can move a bill forward.
Hoyer said that even without the public option there are other crucial changes to the healthcare system, such as capping healthcare costs for consumers.
Who pays when consumers exceed the spending caps? Everyone, through higher taxes for subsidies and higher premiums from the insurance companies. Its an absurd approach, especially since the ObamaCare advocates routinely talk about the overuse of the health-care system. Indemnifying people for busting the caps wont reduce that, although it happens so rarely that it really wont have much impact one way or the other, except on premiums as insurers recalculate risk.
Hoyers second bite at this apple comes at an interesting moment, just as Barack Obama will speak at a joint session of Congress to demand action. Its been widely reported that Obama will back away from his earlier demand for a public option. If Obama wasnt going avail himself of a retreat, would Hoyer be laying the groundwork for one? Its unlikely.
I been saying this. They couldnt pass this in early August and things have gotten worse since then.
I don’t trust these snakes! Watch what they do, not what they say.

If the public option doesn’t pass now, it will get passed later. This bill must be shot down in it’s entirety.
Amen to that: We do have to keep the pressure on now for sure. Trust is the issue you are right again. WE DO NOT TRUST THEM.
Sounds like a damned-if-you-do/dammed-if-you-don’t senario for the Dems. The more liberal contingent won’t tolerate a bill without the ‘government option’ included. What a dilemma :)
For the life of me I cannot understand why.
Any health care bill arranged by the United States Congress IS a public option.
Dump S. Hoyer!
Yes, the latest Dem strategy to garner support is to include a "trigger" for insurance companies to comply with after a certain period of time. This is snake oil, plain and simple. I can see some RINO's falling for this, BUT THEY MUST NOT BE ALLOWED TO!!!!
Not gonna happen. The Great and Mighty Oz will find some razzle-dazzle method to insert the public option in the bill.
KILL THE WHOLE BILL!
YES!
We Americans have no common ground with democrat radicals. Anything they would want to do is bad.
We must keep hammering NO BILL, NONE, NO FURTHER INVOLVEMENT OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. NOT NOW OR EVER.
TERM LIMITS NOW.
States should start working on constitutional amendments exempting the state from ANY federal health care program.
Steny, we may really have to dump you all on your kiesters next year.
Bam’s left flank will blow this trial balloon out of the sky with a Howitzer.
How can anyone in their right mind trust the United States Congress to do anything like this with any competence.
95 percent of them are thieves, liars, and/or sociopaths.
