(On 9/11) I said to myself, "We'll get you, you bastards," but I was wrong. We haven't. It has been eight years, two terms of Bush moralism and the beginning of Obama pragmatism, and the man who ordered the killing of Americans in Lower Manhattan and the Pentagon and in the plane that crashed in Pennsylvania is still in his lair...
...and I wanted then, as I do now, revenge for what happened. Bring me the head of Osama bin Laden. That revenge would be my first thought surprised me even then...When we talk about Afghanistan, whether to stay or go, whether to hold the cards we now have or double down, we reach for all sorts of Metternichian reasons -- but never something as basic, as raw, as revenge. The word smacks of a primitive blood lust. It is revolting.
And yet revenge also suggests a proper concern for the dead. The people who died on Sept. 11, 2001, cannot simply be dismissed, erased...It's not just that bin Laden is still at large. So are the Taliban members who sheltered him and stayed with him after Sept. 11. This should not be complicated: The killers of Americans ought to pay for what they've done. It is good foreign policy....
Leaving Afghanistan has the feel of whistling in the dark. It's as frightening as staying. But when we go -- if we go -- we will have to acknowledge that we have broken our vow not only to Afghans who have supported us -- the Taliban, unlike us, will get its revenge -- but also with the dead of Sept. 11, 2001. We meant well.

Where are Eisenhower and Patton when you need them? Our perhaps-Eisenhowers and -Pattons have their hands tied, some of our soldiers have been turned into social workers. There should be entire (mountainous) regions of Afghanistan (and Pakistan) that have been bombed into dust, leveled and salted over. No loss whatsoever to mankind.
Well tough guy. Where's his head?
Its going to be tough to get revenge now, with one of their own in the WH.
Bush’s approval numbers went through the roof after 9/11.
He was able to push through a terribly unpopular war and Patriot Act.
Imagine what Obama will be able to accomplish once he “finds” Bin Laden.
Osama is awfully quiet for a egotistical maniac. There are several different stories about his being dead, his followers certainly would never hand his body over. There are still many thousands that want to be the new big man in the Islamic terrorist world. Osama is idolized like the Beatles and Elvis to them. In places like the Muslim sections of France, little kids wear Osama tee shirts. This is a war our grandchildren will still be fighting, whether in Afghanistan or New York.
I have to wonder what the headlines would say on the collection of front pages if the editors could go back and change them.
More along the lines of “PAYBACK” The realization turns my stomach.
Bump for later pic grabs.
I still believe a daisy-cutter took him and his one-armed cleric out along with the rest of thier leadership. One of the these days, we will release the intel reports.
You know that, I know that, and millions of other proper thinking Americans know that. Unfortunately, our leaders, for the most part don't, or won't recognize that fact.
When you hate America, it's easy to be that way.
Did you say that with a strait face?
Damn, my spelling thing didn’t detect that.
lol... I’d find a pic of the Church Lady but I can never get pics to work
