If it was just a matter of staying in school, I’m sure there wouldn’t be a fuss over it; but seeing his little video, it looks like he’s pushing his political views on children. That definitely should not be done in public schools, for either side.

Do you know what time the communist in chief is going to give his speech?

Originally, the plans recommended students write letters to themselves about "what they can do to help the president."

Gee that doesn't sound like he's trying to influence them politically.

Yes the uproar has turned it into the type of speech it should have been from the start. That is a good thing but of course the left is saying see you got all upset about nothing.

Of course we now have a precedent by which a Republican President will also no longer be able to address the nation’s children. Not sure if the long term damage is worth the short-term political points really.

Why should a Republican president address the nation’s children? (BTW, Obama is still doing it)

Yes, they did a neat trick of covering the tracks. What is it about socialists that they’re always trying to recruit the children to their cause? Maybe because they’re easily influenced? In that case, they’re certainly not trying to win hearts on an intellectual level. Now if only those nosey parents would stay out of the way...

First of all, I see know reason any president should address the nation’s children. But, if they did, as likely as not the Republican president would be trying to cram leftism down the kids throat. Presidents should stick to their jobs, one of which is not teaching children.

Was this the video called 'I Am What I Learn'; or was that the follow-up video lesson.

(So titled; and surely, an accidental 'transparency'.) LOL; if only. . .

FWIW department...

Our district decided not to show the speech.

At 11 PM tonight the one Board Member who responded to me had to notify me he was wrong...The Superintendent and Instruction Office decided to show it to Middle and Senior High students and to notify 1-5 grades parents first. This seems to mean not tomorrow since it is the first day.

I asked if the removal of those persons was begun. Who makes the decisions?

He had assured me if the Board had been contacted it was NO to the speech.

He repeated 3 times the very angry line, “The President and the White House had not deemed it necessary to contact the VA Dept of Education, The School Board or the Superintendent.” Only the Principals were contacted and presented the entire program including classroom activities.

I replied that it was the anger that made the President change his plans, but I was still angry...and now with the District!

How dare they change it all on a Monday Holiday when everyone traveling was not even notified and some of us by an email opened when returning at after 11PM?

Morning could easily have come and we would not have known.

Angry...boy they would have really seen it from me.

I had said I would be off the school grounds protesting and now I guess a one woman Freep is in order.

The speech will be broadcast at 12 noon EST, and this is for a live feed from the White House website. Not that I want to listen to that worthless pos, but I want to know what kind of lies he's pushing on the kids!

The kids never have the opportunity to listen to Obama. Here it was, their big chance to finally hear him and they’re denied the experience. Bummer.

Possibly Obama could make a speech on TV after school so the poor dears can finally see him after lo these many months.

I think it is a mistake to boycott the speech. Kids will wonder what they're missing. They will resent being forbidden to see it and may be more attracted to Obama's influence than if they had watched it.

A better soluton would have been for parents to demand that they be allowed to watch it with their kids, so that they could then refute Obama's statements.

Reagan did. So did Bush 1.

There was a time in a America that the President used to be everyone’s President. He was the leader of the free world.

The RAT’s did away with this during W.’s reign. The Conservatives have just played along. I don’t really think it is good for the country to see whoever is in office only as the leader of part of the country.

The office of the POTUS used to be seen at least by conservatives as deserving respect in and of itself.

That is being destroyed and with it America as well.

That alone is perhaps a good enough reason to learn Chinese.

Reagan was president when I was in grade school, and I never saw him at school.

My kids will be in class for the speech. They are very young, but will not be brainwashed. My 8-year old is reading Liberty and Tyranny, so I think he’ll be just fine. I am proud that, despite what Laura Bush insists, he does NOT respect the President.
