Many explanations needed..... Was the glider suppose to land there? If so why were all the people running towards his landing area? There's just so much wrong with this whole situation...

..other news reports say the pilot was dropping candy to kids..(that may answer why everyone was running in the vid)
..but if he was landing you would have thought an area would have been set aside......shame for kids to get hurt over a stupid situation.

looks like they ran to the right, so he couldn’t land there. then they ran to the left when he went that way.

looked like he stalled right there at the end.

Watched the video. Pilot was showing off by flying over fairground, saw power lines too late, tried to climb, could not in time to avoid the lines, then he dove under the power lines to avoid them and could not recover from the dive, putting it onto the ground and injuring six people.

Very bad judgement on the part of the pilot.

Wow, sorry to hear/see this. We were almost at Willard this a.m. (late morning) to buy fruit and we saw this guy in the air. We’ve seen him flying around the area many times before.

I guess he forgot these parts of the Federal Aviation Regulations...

Sec. 103.9 Hazardous operations.

(a) No person may operate any ultralight vehicle in a manner that creates a hazard to other persons or property.
(b) No person may allow an object to be dropped from an ultralight vehicle if such action creates a hazard to other persons or property.

Sec. 103.15 Operations over congested areas.

No person may operate an ultralight vehicle over any congested area of a city, town, or settlement, or over any open air assembly of persons.

There's only a page or so for ultralights, not too much studying needed...:^)

It is one of those crappy sites where the videos won’t play. Flash loads- I hit play and nothing happens. I wish it was on youtube. Sad story just the same.

...a few years ago, some guy was charging people at a local air show in Sussex NJ 25-40 DOLLARS for a 15 minute flight back and forth before the air show started. He was there a couple of years...must of flew a couple of hundred people over time....then they found out he didn't have insurance...*grins*

Yea... I hate it when there ie a ‘pause’ symbol over the video. I don’t have a guess on this one yet but something happened where he didn’t have a choice but to land in a crowd. I have a great video of a paraplane crashing into a fence., no one got hurt. Maybe the pilots pride...

There is more to this particular story than meets the eye. The NTSB will enlighten us to what that is in about a year or more from now. That’s the way it is unfortunately.

I shot the video most of you have seen (CNN, FoxNews, et al). When I sent it in, i didn’t put any thing on it. The pause symbols are from the software they’ve used to upload it.

I was THERE. It was a planned event (to drop the candy from the powerglider). When I saw what was going to drop the “junk”, I had a feelig it wasn’t going to go well. Then, when the pilot had to deal with a headwind on a craft that manipulates purely based on wind/air vs. much power, you can see he’s having a hard time coming in. HE WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO LAND! The kids/people were there by design of the event planners.

He got too low (BEFORE he crashed). He was fighting the breeze &... it just went all wrong. I saw bodies fly and spun around as they were hit b/c they couldn’t get out of the way.

It was a mess. I think the best video comes on Fox. There’s actually a good 2-3 minutes that has been cut down to 30 seconds. Very telling, compelling stuff. Very sad. However, a MIRACLE nobody died or more people weren’t hurt.
