That was my first thought too. One of the best selling lines GM has so they are going to stifle it.

Well, I’m in Texas so I doubt any dealerships in my immediate area will be closing. We love our Caddies down here.

Sewell won’t be going anywhere. It’s the premier dealership in Dallas with stores in New Orleans and San Antonio as well.

I used to work there. It’s a class outfit.

>>I’ve got a SRX and love it. maybe I’m the only white guy with one?<<

LOL. I meant SRX is the only model of Caddies whites buy. But I think it is #2 to the Aztek as the ugliest car ever made.

Hey, but YMCV* :)

I have never wanted to buy a GM product until the last two years. If I were in the market and had the money, I would have liked to buy the Pontiac G8 GXP, Cadillac CTS-V, or the Corvette ZR-1. They always seem to kill the best cars they make.

Part of the bailout agreement was that they had to dump the only good Cadillac in existence, the CTS-V. I believe they can’t make that car beyond 2010 because of its gas-guzzler label (13/19 city/hwy).

I’m with you, if you’re serious. I wish I could afford a CTS-V!

What will you do if the Cad dealers close, when it needs service? Find a good independent shop? What about parts availability?

Very serious. I rented one a couple of summers ago when some friends came to town. Never thought I was much of a Cadillac person — various family members had had them since the ‘50s, and I never was impressed. But I sure fell in love, big time, with this CTS. Is the CTS-V the 8-cylinder?

GM screwed up when they took the bailout. What they should have done was immediately completely shut down, cancelled all parts orders, etc., from all their suppliers, and filed to dissolve the company in bankruptcy.

Then the Chairman should have called The Leader and said the board would reopen the company and withdraw the bankruptcy petition IF within 5 days congress passed emergency legislation removing all federal mandates, such as CAFÉ standards, emission standards, seatbelt mandates, etc. Otherwise, Der Fuher and the national socialists could preside over a worse depression than the one in the 1930’s.

An immediate shut down of GM and canceling all their orders from suppliers would have thrown tens of millions of people out of work within a week, devastating an already weak economy. The Leader would have caved in and the US auto makers would be leading the economic recovery.

Yeah, the CTS-V is the supercharged V8. I’ll turn 30 this year, so the spicier engine catches my fancy! Here’s a video that gives a pretty good overview of the car. First half is the best half.

More proof the recession is over.

If I'm not mistaken, GM actually made money on only three lines of product: pick-ups, SUVs...and Cadillacs.

So, now, the new ownership of GM (Obama and the unions) have decided to stop making SUVs, sharply cut-back on pick-ups and eliminate 70% of the Cadillac dealers.

Right out of a Harvard MBA case study...

I like my Fords. I’m not going back to cars. They got a lot better in the mid-90s when they finally got better electronic systems in them from their joint mazda design work.

The closing act of a tragedy. As the former owner of three Cadillacs back in the day, I will say that a Cadillac hasn’t been a Cadillac for several decades. My favorite was a 1972 Sedan de Ville with a 500 cubic inch engine. It was as smooth as a magic carpet ride, even at 100 mph.

I really doubt my local dealership will close. There are only 3 in the DFW area and 2 in the Ft. Worth area. There are tons of Cadillacs down here. My car is still under warranty for 2 more years and there will always be parts available as long as Cadillacs are still in production. By Federal law parts have to be available for 10 years after a manufacturer stops selling cars in the U. S.

It would have been much easier if GM had never taken money from the government in the first place.
