Does Mrs. Bush not get it?

It wasn't the speech! If Obama had simply announced that he wanted to make a live address to students about the importance of staying in school, there would have been nothing to argue about.

It was the damn talking points that the Department of Indoctrination, errr... Education sent out to principals in advance of the speech. No, it wasn't entirely proper to bypass the state and local education agencies. But, it was really the wording of the "exercises" that set off the alarm bells.

The state-run media has, at best, acknowledged that it was "in-artfully worded". But, why can't they admit that it was a legitimate red flag for the large number of parents in this country that disagree with Obama's political views?

I kind of like this. It must twist the guts of progressives to be defended by a Bush.

Laura Bush as wrong on this, and when she tried to expound on it she went further out on that pier of confusion.

It is not Laura Bush’s job to be anything other than very gracious and charming. And she does it perfectly.

I suggest to everyone here to actually read the CNN article. It is not really that supporting of this speech, and certainly doesn’t think children should be forced to listen to it or parents not allowed to opt out. She even mentions those egregious lesson plans.

No One cares if the President talks to School Kids ONE School at a time. No big deal.

Its when the DEAR Leader invades the Lesson plans and the Secretary of Education sends out workbook like procedures to follow, that WE the American People Object.

Rason ? It violates the law...below...

20 U.S.C. § 3403. (Pub.L. 96-88, Title I, § 103, Oct. 17, 1979, 93 Stat. 670) United States Code Title 20. Education Chapter 48.

I’m sure she’s sincere and she’s still trying to be classy - unfortunately this crowd in the white house doesn’t deserve it.

Funny. Laura has been silent on all the other things Obama has done. Why speak up now?

Why? There is no need to say anything about it. I think this is a mistake.

Former first lady Laura Bush is defending President Obama's decision to address the nation's school children, telling CNN Monday that it is "really important for everyone to respect the President of the United States."

When we get a legitimate President of the United States, then the respect will follow.

Right! It’s the lesson plans put out (by The NEA?) the teachers after the speech that I object to. Other rhan “POOR ME, look at my pitifully poor and fatherless home and by working hard where I got to” message, which did not explain how he could afford to attend such high end schools, and the connections and promises he made to get there.

Why is Laura speaking out again when her husband opts to keep his mouth shut?

I think it’s also really important for everyone to respect the President of the United States.

No. It is my profound respect for the office that incites the animus I may feel towards certain occupants of the office.

I think it's also really important for everyone to respect the President of the United States."

Even if that president does not respect the United States, apologizes for the country while on foreign soil, appoints self-avowed communists to White House positions, takes a wrecking ball to the Constitution, etc?

Laura Bush was a classy First Lady unlike her predessor and successor. All she is doing is saying that the Preident deserves some level of respect that unfortunately her husband received very little of. Should she say it’s cool to bash on Obama because of how her husband was treated? No because the woman has some class.

FR is turning into DU.
