Scott Brown "testing the waters" for US Senate Run (MA)
The Boston Herald ^ | 09/07/09 | Jessica Van Sack

Renegade state Sen. Scott P. Brown, a Republican from Wrentham, told the Herald this morning he is “testing the waters” for a run at the seat of the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy.

Although he won’t formally declare his candidacy yet, Brown said he plans to spend the next week raising a small amount of money, as federal election laws permit for those who are exploring a run for U.S. Senate.

“Renegade?” Does that mean he’s a conservative?

Is he a RHINO or a real Republican?

Some Republican has got to run for this seat. Need someone to run against Reid and Pelosi as well.

Non-starter. His daughter Layla, from ‘American Idol’ should run, but she's not old enough.

He's got Gov./Lt. Gov. in his future, which is why he's doing this to raise his name recognition.

I don’t know about Taxachusetts...but I can’t wait for next year’s elections...if the arrogance continues, the Democrats are going to be slaughtered.

The only thing that can save them at this point is to find a way to control election counts.

Keep your eyes and ears open.

For Massachusetts, he’s conservative.

I hope that daughter Ayla Brown can also help him out, if he does officially run for this seat. It will definitely be almost impossible for ANY Republican candidate to actually win this seat, no matter who the final Republican candidate is. The Massachusetts Republican Party is so weak and has been very weak for so long that it's too sad to even talk about in length.

I guess that’s the standard motivation you’d expect in a one-party state where the token opposition party doesn’t think they have a chance in the race. What would you recommend or like to see? I’m years out of MA, no longer in touch with their Republican prospects.

I wish an independent or Republican would declare candidacy...it will make it that much tougher for the Mass. legislature to steal the election from the voters and give the governor the power to appoint if it makes them look like they cancelled an active race instead of preventing one from happening.

Reid has a few Repubs lining up against him including Jerry Tarkanian (former UNLV basketball coach) son. I think Reid will be toast.

IMO, Curt Schilling (even running as an Ind., which he might have to do) is the only non-Rat that has ANY chance.

I have nothing against Scott Brown, but this is more of a ‘get my name out there’ move than an actual ‘hey I have a chance to compete or win’ campaign.

From afar, that sounds right. But if Schill doesn’t actually throw his hat in the ring good and soon, the Pubbies need someone to step up and, well, he’s the best looking candidate they have anyway.

there is a blizzard being planned for 1/19, final results will be:
Joe Kennedy 420,000
Scott Brown 419,000

We can then send thank you notes to the knucklehead Freepers who argued that this race is a waste of time.

nobody can cancel this election. The DEMS are talking about an interim Senator to serve until Jan 19th.

I thought Tark was not yet decided. From what I hear the GOPers were not very strong candidates but Reid was losing to them all. When you have someone as weak as Reid to run against though you should be able to field a very attractive candidate and apparently the GOP has not yet done that.
