According to an article in the Pioneer Press, environmental groups have filed suit in San Francisco to halt construction of an oil pipeline from Canada to Minnesota.
Something is wrong with this picture. The first question that immediately comes to mind is how is it that a San Francisco court can have jurisdiction over something that is happening between Canada and Minnesota? It's not like they have to be worried about oil spills, since even if a whole lot of oil gets spilled, the Rocky Mountains should serve as an effective dam, especially since it's uphill from here to the Rockies.
At only 285 miles, the proposed pipeline is not long enough to come close to California. There is no direct effect on California from this pipeline, so why should a San Francisco court be involved?
The answer to this question is unfortunately easy: the 9th Circuit Court, which includes California, is the most liberal court in the United States. So the environmentalist busybodies who are intent on saving Minnesotans from themselves picked a court where the outcome is likely to be favorable to them. If the courts were more friendly in Bogalusa, Louisiana, they would have filed the suit in Bogalusa, Louisiana.

Sounds like court shopping to me...
Don’t blame the 9th circus for this. Sixty years ago the Supremes abolished the interstate commerce clause.
This is why our judicial system is the joke that it is. Maggots are allowed to shop for judges and courts where they know they can “win.”
Maggots shopping for maggots. Figures.
I have been saying all along; you have to look at interstate. That’s where the Congress; etc have you. They screw people/businesses this way.
Cheers!
Schwartzenegger and Californian ideologists have also colluded with Ottawa to stop the Alberta oil sands projects.
BTW, the bipartisan Californian efforts are aimed at keeping the US dollar high relative to the Canadian dollar. ...free traitor and merchant interests for assembled products as opposed to natural resources (commodities).
May oil go to $200 and the yuan to three times the dollar. It’s time for globalism to go away.
And Obama will send ICE to the border to stop the link between the two countries.
He probably would, as he does work for the same favored constituents. I fought environmentalists in meetings for a long time, until I found out that they were fronts for corporates engaging in illegitimate methods of competition.
...could be some of the Obama Administration’s “green jobs” interests behind that, too.
