If you were wondering whether San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom learned from his Howard Dean moment, wonder no more.
One of gay marriages most vocal supporters gained national recognition when a group of Prop. 8 supporters used Newsom's own words to scare voters to support the measure that banned gay marriage in California.
"This door's wide open now," Newsom said last year after the California Supreme Court ruled gay marriage to be legal. "It's going to happen, whether you like it or not." Newsom said the ad was "effective" at getting Californians to vote against Prop. 8.
On Wednesday, Newsom publicly repeated the phrase he himself described as "Howard Dean-esque." But this time the mayor was speaking about offering health care in San Francisco regardless of immigration status.
To his credit, the mayor admitted at a health care reform summit in Mission Bay that "the phrase would be at his peril," according to the San Francisco Examiner.
But that didn't stop Newsom from saying whether you like it or not the country needs health care reform.
He probably also does a lot of screaming... but that behind closed doors. (thankfully)
“Newsom said the ad was “effective” at getting Californians to vote against Prop. 8.”
fail
This is the guy whose sanctuary policy released an illegal alien gangster from jail onto the street where he killed 3 members of a family. Unbelievable.
Oh, thank you, God.
Who knew there would be a Democratic gubernatorial primary where Jerry Brown would be the smart, sane one? (For that matter, who knew there would ever be another primary for the Moonbeam?)
I would love to hear kimberly guilfoyle of fox news speak frankly about ole Gavin, her former husband. I started out not caring for her but she has grown on me and I always like what she has to say when she is on Hannity’s panel.
I don’t know why Kimberly married him, but I might know one of the reasons she divorced him. She talks almost like a conservative on FNC.
GMTA!~
I see that now! :)
This Newsome is running for governor. I am so afraid the choice is going to be Meg Whitman who praised Van Jones or Newsome.
Meg was a successful CEO, but really. What to do? The Golden State is NOT golden.
Kim Guilfoyle was definitely the brains in that couple. Gav’s new wife is more his speed (i.e., a total airhead).
Yeah, the “actress” Jennifer Siebel.
Newsom, you’re going to start having to look for a new job after next election - whether you like it or not.
What a pustule of a mayor. A pustule on the canker that is San Fransodomy.
Former champions are not champions... when it gets to the bottom dollar of healthcare. Not just the elderly and disabled, but the homosexuals.
All those self-haters up on the hill (on the down low, including some eugenicists), will turn on them after R&D’s shut down and they become too expensive and a burden re: drugs and care.
They should read history, see Paragraph 175/Hitler.
i was disturbed to see she praised van jones, i would be hard pressed to trust her even as she tries to backpedal from it. newsome would be nightmarish though, didn’t he have some scandal not too long ago, screwing around with the wife of someone who worked for him and he chalked it up to alcohol abuse or something. he’s a real winner!
The sad thing is, Newsom is going to win and finish off CA. Whitman has all the intelligence of bread mold.
I vaguely recall something like you described, but I’m certain you’re right. I live in Southern CA, so the scandals in San Francisco seem (mercifully) like they’re in another state.
Newsome is loathsome on every front. If he wins and the democrats maintain their legislative majorites, I think CA will be irreparably finished. He won’t veto a damn thing.
Newsom is going to win in a landslide because the CA GOP has been destroyed by Arnold and Romney protege Whitman. Whitman doesn't stand a chance.
The only way a conservative can win is if Duncan Hunter comes out of retirement or someone run in the AIP ticket.
You were reading my mind.
Steve Poizner!!
Yes, I like him very much.
