With the economic problems and gross mismanagement at our County, State and Federal level, we have a chance in Contra Costa to finally reverse this trend.
Of all the candidates running, attorney and family man David Harmer of the San Ramon area has the background to handle the needed clean-up and reforms in a fiscally responsible manner.
As a smart and articulate attorney he understands the Constitution, the complex world of finance that needs correction, and the backbone to reform and roll-back the outrageous public pensions that the Times keeps exposing to we loyal readers.
His Democratic opponents, on the other hand, are the ones responsible for the financial mess in our county and state governments and schools, as they have all been the lackeys that have plundered taxpayer's coffers for those same unions and special interests killing our economy.
Especially responsible is likeable but "professional politician" Mark DeSaulnier whose fingerprints and votes are all over the county and state's predictable deficits and policies that are bankrupting us and causing businesses to flee and rising unemployment.
To help fix this mess, please endorse David Harmer rather than any of the "career politicians."

This is the special election to succeed Ellen Taucher, who got a job in the State Department. Due to redistricting, it’s only an outside shot. But given the current environment and the fact that the ‘Rat nominee doesn’t even live in the district, it’s not impossible.
Redistricting? How can there have been redistricting between last November and now? House redistricting generally only occurs every 10 years, in the wake of the federal census. (But there have been a few special cases where courts have ordered redistricting in a particular state at other times.)
Little interesting trivia point, this race is between the sitting Lt Governor (Garamendi) and the son of a former Lt Governor (Harmer).
How can someone who doesn’t live in the district be elected to represent a district where he doesn’t live? I used to live in Contra Costa County. Does that mean I could throw my name in the hat?
So Harmer is the son of a former Lt. Gov. Whose? And that brings up another “burning” question of mine. Whatever happened to former Gov. George Deukmajian? I haven’t heard his name in years. Is he still active in politics? Still conservative?
He’s the son of former Lt Gov. John Harmer. Harmer served a very brief interim term in 1974-75 (hand-picked by then-Gov. Reagan) after two terms in the State Senate (when GOP incumbent Ed Reinecke stepped down to pursue the Gubernatorial nomination in ‘74).
George Deukmejian isn’t extraordinarily active anymore, I think he shows up at some functions from time to time, but not much else. He’s 81, and yes, he’s still Conservative. He did play a part in exposing the liberal phony Tricky Dick Riordan back in ‘02, which cost him the GOP Gubernatorial nomination (of course, the bad news is that we ended up with the equally odious Ah-nold).
Ask Hillary. She knows all about that.
Oh, didn’t see your question. For federal races in any state, you merely need be a resident of the state for which you are running in. You could live a foot away from Oregon in Del Norte County and file to run in a district representing Imperial County on the AZ/Mexico Border. You’re not likely to win, of course, since people tend to prefer folks that live in their district, but it’s still legal.
“I used to live in Contra Costa County. Does that mean I could throw my name in the hat?”
Sure!
The redistricting in 2001 moved some strongly Democrat areas into the district.
This is a surprising statement in a surprising newspaper endorsement of the Republican candidate.
Usually, the newspapers try to sweep this stuff aside for the Democrat with comments like "Despite being in office when the problems began, [insert Democrat candidate name here] is in the best position to understand what needs to be done."

This isn’t a newspaper endorsement, it’s a letter to the editor ASKING them to endorse the Republican.

Duke lives in LB. He is a retired lawyer, still does some campaigning for conserv Pubs. But is inactive. This district should be an easy win for the Dem. If Pubs win now in Ca., the Second Coming is about to occur. But as the kids say, it could happen if Dems stay home.
Well, that's one way of rigging an election. The other way is switching the names.
I forgot all about this race. The GOP unfortunately wrote it off. It’s not unwinnable.
The rat nominee is the LT Governor. If he wins as is likely I guess Arnold get’s to put a RINO in that post. Joy.
How Harmer does could be a good barometer for 2010.
