Rathke lamented the infighting within different unions and the inaction of Democrats in Congress on behalf of low-income Americans. "We're not going to get what many of us thought was possible a year ago," he said.
And even if organizers could unionize 100,000 or 150,000 Wal-Mart workers, no plan exists for how the organizations could handle the influx of new members, he said.
One bright spot is overseas, Rathke said, where unions are signing thousands of garbage pickers in India and Argentine cartoneros, the ultrapoor in Buenos Aires who recycle cardboard and other trash.

unions destroy anything they touch
I have sympathy for the poor. So does God the Almighty.
For this woman to call it a "bright spot" for these horribly poor people is only because she sees unions grabbing power and control over their lives and putting them under the thumb of Marxism - which is really what the Left is all about (that, and hatred of Judeo-Christianity).

Yup - they seem much happier now that they have the union label.
This part of the title is very misleading...Nothing has been voted on yet. This is still up in the air. Now is not the time to be patting ourselves on the back for anything!
They can lose the debate without losing the vote in Congress, unfortunately. In that they have failed to convince the public, they have lost the debate. I think it’s doubtful that they are going to win public approval for what they are offering.
They haven’t lost the legislative fight yet. It’s going to take an election to decide that. I think it is fair to say they have lost the public debate though.
I’m just hopeful Rathke is as discouraged about things as he sounds here, because the union grab is really the most frightening thing about Obama’s administration so far, at least to me. Head of the Federal Reserve of NY, “manufacturing czar,” UAW stake in GM outweighing investors in bankruptcy? So far, they still look to be riding high to me.
For a freshman Congressman, holding on to the power and perks that he just acquired is the only thing that matters. The next election isn't that far away, and they're scared.
The health care bill alone would open up thousands of new administrative agency spots, a lot of them near the top of the food chain. He’ll be dangling them for playing along. Still, I remember that Congress woman Mezvinsky, back in Toon’s time, who was a Democrat in an historically Republican district, who was so weak-kneed as she went forward to cast her vote on some Clinton initiative that the Democrat leadership actually had to come alongside and support her physically.
How much can someone pay the garbage pickers? what happens if they go on strike,do they think the Indian govt will sit by and let piles of refuse grow?
They've reached the end of their 'long march through the institutions' and captured the leadership positions. Now they will do, as they have done to the People's Publik Skools', to the Fed, the banks, all major manufacturing and power making corporations. All in in the same spineless conditions of Nazi era German corporations to Nazi political 'requests'.
There are a few, marginal summits to go, like the military, but Colonels that want to be General are a dime a dozens.
The internal security organs are pretty much obedient lap dogs to who ever is snapping their fingers. Cops will do anything and what they are told with only a figment of color of law.
Then comes the attacks on the enemies of the people, pockets of 'reactionaries'. (That's us folks)
Best book ever on what I am babbling about, "Ominous Parallels" by Leonard Peikoff.
You can buy the book used at abebooks.com for about a 1 dollar. ( It has ideas in it, so hence not much demand by the American Sheeple )
Interesting line from the Mossberg article, don't you think? Could be the American people will still waken.
They haven't lost yet, and we must remain alert - they have been working on this socialist leap for several decades. To the extent that the thugs are losing, it's because they are evil and value control over others along with the financial power to reward (or punish) businesses and unions that support (or oppose) them. They are happy to sacrifice my frail grandmother, based on whether it's cost-effective to keep her around, and decent Americans don't find that acceptable. We just have to keep our kids from listening to obama without supervision until they are old enough to resist his indoctrination.
Yes, true.
Isn’t it interesting that the GOP/RNC is so...cold...distant from us unwashed and our in their face tactics? Almost like they didn’t want ‘us’ to act?
I saw this in the chad fights in W. Palm Beach. GOP/RNC totally, save lawyers, non existent and not liking the conservative crowds.
As far as I am concerned the GOP, at the top. is just another stick it to American organization. A large part of the GOP are ignorant, true believers used just like Hitler used true believing, unsophisticated German youth.
Ditto the Democrats. Obama is just a liberal hot house raised prop. Van Jones is another safe( for them ) house negro.
( I have to go to my weekend job to have some money after what the Democrat/Republican welfare state has taken my weekly pay. Basically I work, to have money to go to work to have money to hand over to liberal Dems and Republicans and millions of welfare scum and public employee leaches. Not. A. Happy. Camper.)
I think a very strong point against the scheme is being missed, that is that ,as working people have contributed mega bucks to the healthcare system through insurance premiums and Medicare taxes (what is it , 3% of every dollar made in any manner? ) for decades, while taking very little out in terms of care while young and healthy, they have every right to look at that as an investment in their own future care. Obama and the Immanuel boys want to change the rules of the game.
Get out thre in your battered hatchback ( I have one too) and don’t forget to take along your pack of Ramen noodles for lunch.
And now her son is engaged to Chelsea Clinton.
oh...my...gosh!!! An arranged marriage?
Perhaps.
