(Sept. 4) -- Plainclothes officers shot and killed a small-town pastor when the 28-year-old father-to-be resisted efforts to question him about a passenger in his car who was the target of a drug sting, authorities said. Jonathan Paul Ayers of Shoal Creek Baptist Church in Lavonia wasn't targeted in the probe that ended in gunfire at a gas station Tuesday, Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesman John Bankhead said. But drug task-force agents opened fire on him after he tried to avoid them, putting his car in reverse and striking one of the officers.

Locals indicate the combined drug task force in Stephens, Rabun and Habersham Counties is "trigger happy."
Several questions have to be answered in order to get the answer on what happened: Although the prostitute/crackhead was not in his car at the time of the shooting, she had been earlier. Why?
Everyone admits she was the target of the task force so why when she clearly was not in his car did the cops try to take him down?
The pastor is in his car preparing to leave the store when a Cadillac Escalade pulls up and two men jump out pointing guns at him. They and witnesses say they identified themselves as cops but could it be the pastor was focused on the pistols and what looked like a car jacking and not on what they were saying? Could he had had the windows up and radio on? If you see the video, you will see that the officer struck by the car is hit so lightly that not only does he not fall down, but doesnt stop moving around in a normal fashion. Why did they open fire as he was trying to flee?
This poster almost always takes the side of law enforcement in these cases but not this time. Too many questions to be answered.
Well, the cops certainly acted stupidly here. IMHO, cops are out of control in this country.
parsy, who hopes these cops get to go to jail for murder.
This sounds like an accident, but the fuzz was in full paranoia mode.
“The police acted ... uhhh ... stupidly.”
I saw the video.
Law enforcement’s tactic here is to step up just close enough to the car so that the ‘suspect’ will brush past their pant’s leg so that then they can claim he was assaulting them with a deadly weapon and then they are justified by responding with deadly force.
Cops like these two are out of control. The only thing that separates them from the criminals is a badge. The victim of this murder did the same thing that any rational person would do when confronted like this—run! They gunned him down for it.
IMHO, they have been for 20 years and, IMHO, you ain't seen the worst of it.
Beauteous!
Jesse and Al would be screaming that the white racist cops gunned down and killed the brothers in cold blood.
Based on the video, which is rather poor, looks like the two cops could have just as easily got back into their vehicle, called a normal police car and followed the two until they pulled over.
But, it's just two white honkies, so no big deal
Why didn’t they take him down when he was walking too and from his car? How many bullets did they fire at him? I don’t see why they had to approach this guy at gunpoint when he wasn’t wanted for any crime and was only suppose to be questioned. These cops are out of control.
I agree. The main reason is that they are enabled by their bosses and the cities/counties/states who circle the wagons.
parsy, who thinks those are the real problems.
True but when SHTF it's gonna be a hoot watching all those mall ninja swatties getting smoked by geezers with old lever action 30-30's.
I think we are closer to SHTF than we have been for 50 years. However, in the South, I suspect things will roll along pretty civilly. Too many guns, too many rednecks, and too little tolerance.
pasy, who has plenty of ammo

???
How do you figure? A guy running into your fellow officers with his car should just be OK?
Running into someone with your car is deadly force; it will be treated as such by LEOs. Every. Single. Time.
This should be high on everyone's list of Very Bad Ideas.
Looks to me like he bumped the cop. Not a run the cop down scenario. But whatever, cops can taze grandmas, chase minor traffic offenders and kill innocent civilians.
parsy, who thinks cops should be held to a higher standard
I can easily see how this could look like a car jacking to a person in the car.
These cops were out of control, they were supposedly chasing a druggie, not a serial killer.

only if you know that they are cops.
Incidents like this are sure on the rise.
I see alot of LEOs claim that they have been struck by vehicles, but are miraculously unharmed in the event.
In other words, the LEO is spinning complete and absolute bovine excrement by the truckload, because he knows it plays in the media and courtroom. These thugs jumped out of a vehicle that was still moving in order to apprehend... what? A pastor giving a parishioner a ride? And then these tools leave a vehicle in gear in a parking lot with fuel pumps? Sounds like these government employees need to find more suitable employment. Like breaking big rocks into small rocks for a very long time.
Oh, and no drugs were found. EPIC FAIL.
