The White House on Friday dismissed as pointless the furor over President Barack Obama's plan to deliver a televised back-to-school speech to the nation's students.
"I think we've reached a little bit of the silly season when the president of the United States can't tell kids in school to study hard and stay in school," presidential spokesman Robert Gibbs told reporters. "I think both political parties agree that the dropout rate is something that threatens our long-term economic success."
Obama's planned address to students has prompted a surprising push-back from some quarters over what the White House sees as an important but innocuous topic.

Everybody knows how wee wee’d up people get during Silly Season.
Gibbs, here’s the thing. We are just wee-wee’d up once again about your MARXIST COUP-ster. Just blow us off. You guys are there for your own special reasons, right? Not because you work for We the People.
This Worm is an Idiot!
Obama will probably come through with a relatively innocuous speech telling kids to study and stay in school. Any personality cult stuff will be excised now that we caught this cockroach in the light. Then Gibbs will tell us how silly we were for being suspicious while shredding the first draft from earlier this week.
ASK NOT what you can do for your country.
ASK what can you do for 0bama.
Herr Goebbels...I mean Gibbs, care to try and explain to us what that is suppose to mean?
Gibbs looked all wee weed up today, didn’t he.
The controversy wasn't about an innocuous "stay in school" speech by the Prez. It was over the WH's instructions to teachers to have their students pledge to put themselves into service for this President's agenda & furthermore to hold their students accountable to living up to that pledge to their Maximum Leader Obama, a la Kim Jong-il . BIG effin difference there, Gibbsy.
And if Gibbs & his boss are incapable of discerning the distinction between those two very different propositions, how in heavens' name can they ask the American people to trust them to have the ethical sensitivity & cognitive intelligence to fairly, competently, & efficaciously run their health care system for them?
Excuse me “if” the question has already been asked of Gibbs but I could only stomach one presser from the stammering, stuttering, “uh...uh...uh” Gibbs.

Phrases used by People Who Think They’re Better Than You:
“silly season”
“chattering class”
“mean-spirited”
“hate-monger”
Man, that is really a pathetic response for lapdog Gibbs to use. Does this administration really just talk in focus group tested phrases?
My kid will NOT be watching Hussein's stupid little talk. Period. I do not trust the jackass--everytime he opens his mouth, a huge pile of DUMB comes falling out, so we're skipping the Dear Leader's address.
And we won't be alone, Lapdog Gibbs. Call us silly, eh? We're the people who pay your salaries, PUNK.
And as far as I'm concerned, it'll be cold day in HADES when my kid is subjected to your Master's idiotic rants without ME right next to them to interpret the half-truths and fabrications.
Surprising to the AP/Yahoo! reporter who has NO CLUE that most of America really thinks Hussein is a dolt.
NOT surprising to me.
The silly season began when Ayers and Obama wasted millions of dollars of Annenberg Challenge grants.
The arrogance of this adminisration is stunning. Everyone who criticizes this man or his policies is un-American, crazy or paid to do it. I’ve never seen an elected official (Gibbs by his job description speaks for the ‘Bama) who treats the public with such utter contempt. Obama acts like the American people are something he has to scrape off the sole of his shoes.
The ones he will be telling to stay in school and study (yeah THATS what its all about..geesh) will obviously be in school and studying?! What a cargo load of bullcrap!
wee-weed up
That's not the purpose of this speech and Gibbs darn well knows it.
I used to feel sorry for Gibbs. Now I'm beginning to detest him.
