It all started with late-night solitaire at the state Capitol Monday.
And the fallout still hasn't stopped.
Two Democratic legislators were playing solitaire on their state-issued computers Monday night during a late-night debate on the state budget, and an Associated Press photo that showed the solitaire games soon whipped around the nation on the Internet.
From there it was a short hop to national cable TV news.
Now there are calls for apologies and for new rules regarding computer games at the Capitol.
Republican Thomas Foley, the former U.S. ambassador to Ireland who hopes to unseat Democratic U.S. Sen. Christopher Dodd, has sent a letter asking state Democratic legislative leaders to adopt a new rule banning the use of laptops and electronic BlackBerry devices during formal House and Senate sessions.
"I hope you share with me the sense of outrage felt by the people of Connecticut over the embarrassing spectacle of Democratic legislators playing solitaire on laptop computers while important debate was taking place on the state budget," Foley wrote in a letter to House Speaker Christopher Donovan and Senate President Pro Tem Donald Williams.
Foley said that the photo "has subjected our state legislature to national shame and controversy."
Williams declined to comment on Foley's letter. Donovan's spokesman, Doug Whiting, said that Donovan had not seen Foley's letter and had no comment.

Now, if they had been playing Free Cell, I would have been, maybe, at least a little impressed. Solitaire is way to easy.
Have you ever been to a governement meeting? Solitaire and medication should be issued to all.
Democrats know no shame. Unfortuately.
Or even, unfortunately.
So now they need RULES FOR COMPUTER GAME PLAYING?? How about electing something other than leftist political hacks?
If these a-holes are playing games on their computers during business hours, it means that there’s more hours than work, which means it’s time to cut that fat and start laying people off.
Um, ‘the photo has subjected them to shame?’ NO — their actions, CAUGHT by the photo and televised nation-wide, have subjected them to shame. This is the natural consequence of their actions.
I suppose We the People bought those turds their computers, too.
I'd much rather have them wasting time on a relatively harmless game than thinking about new ways to rob us of our wealth and liberties.
I believe they already know how they will vote so it’s just a waste of time for them to sit through it all. They don’t plan on objecting to any of it. Just like healthcare - no one read it but the libs agreed to push it through and defend something they hadn’t read.
Let’s see a show of hands of those who think this is an isolated incident.
I would like to see the media do something with the TX legislators who were VOTING for others. I’m still mad about it and I don’t live there right now. I don’t see how that can continue after being exposed.
Nothing is more vapid or predictable than politicians creating a new law the instant something negative grabs a head line. Well, OK in this case it’s a rule, but same principle applies. In our town the mayor was speechafying and a motorcycle with loud pipes drove by, so the next day guess what, the city council passes a new ordinance targeting motorcycles with loud pipes. But vapid and stupid is how people like their laws, and that’s how they like their neighbors vapid, stupid and constrained by regulation. I don’t give a crap about HOW the legislators get their product, I care what the product is. Right now, the product coming out of most State and Federal Legislative bodies sucks. But again, regulating HOW they get there is stupid and vapid beyond belief. Folks on this thread condemning people who are bored out of their skulls while listening to some narcissistic waste of time blathering away is really shallow. Lets worry about results people. The legislative process we have today has been around for 3000 years, so if you want to try and change the process, good luck with that!
