Tina Dugard says the two young girls are educated and bright

The first details have emerged of how the Dugard family is faring since the release of Jaycee Lee, who was abducted and held for 18 years in California.

If they were educated solely by their mother, that is a remarkable achievement for a mother who, "dropped out" of school at age 11.

The mind can be a prison- perhaps he lied to them? The traumas can cause all kinds of “odd” reactions- like attaching to the man who did this.

I wonder if the old witch Nancy was infertile and if Creepy Phil and her saw this as an opportunity for a “family”.

How does someone NOT escape from a tent?

Being raped repeatedly and physically abused as a child produces a fear and hopelessness that eventually swallows anything else.

How does one grow to be an adult in the modern world in such a Pollyanna state of cluelessness that they would even ask that question

You don’t like the question?

I’m shattered.

I’m sure you could never escape from a tent so I kind of understand.

I hate to say this but I bet this freaking monster molested her girls, age 11 and 15.

What would stop him?

Why wouldn’t he?

Most people don’t understand that almost anyone can be “broken,” with the term used precisely as in breaking a horse. The old slave breakers knew it, and today’s pimps understand the process perfectly.

After a while most people psychologically accept their situation and begin to take it for granted as normal. This is much more the case when the victim is a child. They will often even identify with and come to “love” their victimizer. It is a survival mechanism.

People can be domesticated. They don’t want to escape any longer.

There is also the method used by certain men where they tell the girl she is “damaged” and that the family will not want her back. If he can break her spirit enough she starts to believe and will not accept that her family would want her back after what has happened to her. Pimps use this method on young girls routinely. One of the best fictional depictions of this is is the book “No Remorse”.

The thought of that poor child being isolated and raped at age 13 and then forced to give birth to a baby in a tent with strangers just makes me so angry.

There is not enough bad things they can do to these two creatures. They robbed that poor little girl of her life. It is just beyond belief what that poor child had to endure.

The article said: "It's clear they've been on the internet and know a lot of things. It's clear that Jaycee did a great job with the limited resources she had and her limited education."

There was an MSNBC tape posted on FR that gave more details. One of Jaycee's daughters was outside with the Aunt and pointed out several constellations. They also read and write.

Good grief.

This really isn't the most appropriate subject to start singing the praises of home schooling.

Since you are a man and haven't been abused and raped, I suppose it would be difficult for you to understand.

She had her first child at 14. How easy do you believe it would be to escape at that age with a baby? Then at 18 she had another. So now there are 2 children that an abused child has to escape with. Piece of cake, right?
