There are many things public officials probably shouldn't do during a severe recession, but no one seems to have told the leaders in Florida about them.

Just as all the rich NYers are moving in....
Endless freebies for illegal aliens like California. Thank you Jeb, Crist, Mel Martinez, Bill Nelson, and Rubio.
Txxes are getting to be like NJ.
We are having some success holding the line on tax increases ... it’s not all doom and gloom.
The biggest problem is jobs, the construction industry has taken a huge hit. And with that the liberals tax and spend plans have likewise been bad hit.
Not just rising taxes but rising cost of home insurance as well.
Too humid in the summer.
And home insurance.
I don’t see any problems with getting home insurance, just that Crist with his welfare handout insurance program(Citizens) drove costs sky high.
I don't live near the water and have never made a claim on my homeowner's insurance.
Now why would you lump Rubio in on this? If it is because he was speaker of the Florida House, then it was just guilty by association. View this recent interview all the way through. If you would like I could easily find more where he is more specific about taxes but I’m sure you have that capability as well.
They raised taxes on tourism too, which was not smart. It’s what has had us going elsewhere for vacations for the past few years.
I wonder if this could be put as a natural part of the evolution of Florida? That is, they’ve had booming development for years, and are probably “overgrown”, so need a goodly amount of economic pruning.
Now you can see why the base and most Florida Republican Exceutive Committees did not endorese Crist like the NRSC did. Charlie may have all the media and big money but Marco has the base. Charlie will tap out soon on the funding limits but Marco is focusing in on the small individual donations.
Yeah, they did it around in our county, to the point where the tourist aren’t here no more.
You are right, it’s really dumb to do this, but when has dumb stopped any liberal.
He was speaker of the house. Did he ever pass any laws to reduce the blood sucking effect of illegal aliens on AMERICAN taxpayers?
The other issue not spoken about is the high number of forclosures as well. I would beleive that alone would drive out more people than an uptick in taxes would.
You must never have lived in NJ.
My brother pays twice, almost three times, the property tax than I do, as well a state income. Granted, his home is about 25 % more valuable than mine, but still he pays more then $6,000 a year just in property tax.
Taxes in Florida has risen, but we are still pikers compared to NJ
The narrative goes as follows (in a whiny Lawn Guyland accent):
1950s-1970s: "The taxes are crazy and the weather's cold. Lets go to CALIFORNIA!"
1970s-early 2000s: "The taxes are crazy and the weather's cold. Lets go to Florida!"
2000s: "The taxes are crazy and the weather's cold. Lets go to North Carolina!"
He is but one vote. The state house here is not a monolithe like the national parties are since all of the politics are a lot closer to home. He tried to legislate a version of the FairTax for the state, is that good enough for you to take another look? I am very happy to know he held his leadership to nothing remotely like Pelosi.
