And can you point out what part of the Constitution gives the military the power to remove a president and take control of the government? I assume that would be the part they'd be upholding, wouldn't it?

If the Constitution is being shredded by an illegal regime with no authority, the military's Oath to "preserve" the Constitution kicks in, simple as that.

You sound like that prospect gives you the shakes, are you ok?

How does 'preserve and protect' include overthrowing the civilian government when the Constitution does not allow it? Isn't that like destroying the village in order to save it?

A military coup? Actually I find the prospect is more humorous than scary. I spent many years in the military and I'm aware of what my oath involved even if you are not. And I'm aware of the respect my fellow officers had for teh Constitution, even if you don't.
