I grew up in a very small 1950's midwestern town. There was a "Variety Store" owned by, what I thought at the time, were two older women, sisters, who wore those sturdy, oxford two-inch heeled shoes. The navy blue dresses were their party dresses (can't wear black every day!) They sold ribbons, crayons, notions, shoe polish - a real mish-mash. And they had a candy counter at the front of the store - a wood and glass case with candies in little paper cups that were older than they were. I loved going in that store and staring at all the goo-gaws.

Now, they did bathe. In fact, they were polished and powdered from head to toe.

Years later, I found out they weren't sisters. So much for the intolerence of small-town, midwestern America.

Giant Vegetable Czar is good, but what about the assistant Czar in charge of cole slaw?

Feed me!!! I have an extraordinarily huge eggplant plant, actually we call it an eggtree, and we nicknamed it Audrey.

Who the heck would eat cabbage while drinking a pint of Guinness?

All I know is that I am not getting on a elevator with them.

Cabbage, as a veggie, doesn’t get near the respect it deserves.

Absolutely chock full of nutrients, very, very versatile in different recipes/forms.

And you could fill an old shoe with dirt, stuff it in the back of your closet, cabbage would still grow gangbusters in it!!

I need to transplant some of mine around and gather the seeds, even though I got a truckload of seeds still from last year...
