Forty years ago, when I was a kid, there were a group of people who didn't much like the government and how it was doing things. They thought their leader was a rich, dangerous man, out of touch with them and with the real way the world worked. They knew that there were illegal programs in place to monitor those who disagreed, and that they were being watched carefully. Still, they stood up for what they believed in, and in public demonstrations they confronted their leaders and said forcefully that something was wrong with the way things were being done. When Republicans ruled, the press called them "brave young people making a difference." Those young people knew that one day, when their enlightened and loving generation had a chance at being in charge, things would change, and they would show them what REAL government meant. Things would be DIFFERENT.
Today, there are a group of people who don't much like the government and how it is doing things. They think their leader is a rich, dangerous man, out of touch with them and with the real way the world works. They know that there are programs in place to monitor those who disagree, and that they are being watched carefully. Still, they stand up for what they believe in, and in public demonstrations they confront their leaders and say forcefully that something is wrong with the way things are being done. When Democrats rule, the press calls them "crazy old selfish right-wing bigots only interested in themselves. Oh, and Nazis. And confused people interested only in God and guns. Who are stupid, and need us to tell them how to work, eat, and live. And what to drive."
Who will guard the guardians? And can we afford even two more years of being "helped"?
Something to think about. Back in 1946 the Republican party resembled the Democrats of today. I remember voting for Harry Truman, it was my first time. Things have changed.
