Sorry, Charlie - Rangel must step aside as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.
Washington Post ^ | September 3, 2009

Posted on 09/03/2009 8:08:52 AM PDT by La Lydia

For politicians with major bad news to make public, there's no time like the dead of August to do it....the public won't remember a thing come September. We hope Rep. Charles B. Rangel (D-N.Y.) will have no such luck. His belated revelation of previously unreported income, property and bank accounts demands that he step aside as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.

Mr. Rangel's amended financial disclosure form, which exposes omissions from his 2002 through 2006 records, is a treasure trove of outrage. He neglected to report a checking account with the Congressional Federal Credit Union and one with Merrill Lynch, each valued between $250,000 and $500,000; the tens of thousands of dollars he's earning from dividends from a number of mutual funds and stocks; and the money made from the sale of a Harlem townhouse. As a result, Mr. Rangel's reported net worth doubled, from between $516,015 and $1,316,000 to between $1,028,024 and $2,495,000.

We called on Mr. Rangel to resign his coveted post last November...Mind you, that committee already was looking into his using official stationery to raise funds for that pet project, paying below-market rents on four Harlem apartments, failing to report income from a Florida condominium sale and failing to pay taxes on a home in the Dominican Republic. There's another subcommittee investigation into lobbyist-paid trips by Mr. Rangel and four other members of Congress.

Much is expected of elected officials. Much more is expected and demanded of those entrusted with chairmanships...Mr. Rangel has violated that trust continually and seemingly without care.

I think it’s time to realize that ‘certain’ people don’t have to pay taxes. I’m beginning to think the IRS is also complicit by giving these politicians a little “wink wink, nudge nudge”...we won’t red flag your returns but if someone makes it public, we will go into a COA mode.

Read between the lines. They didn’t ask the Democrat leadership to do anything. It’s a CYA move.

If this were a Republican, they would have asked the leadership to “man up” or look impotent.

On 165,000/yr salary no less.................. HA! Influence peddling, kick backs, you name it. Did you really think that the Congressmen and women from the NE and WC go there for the government pay? They are crooks in nice suits. Term Limits!! Get the slime out of there.

Anybody else would be financially ruined by the IRS, and then hauled off to jail!

Look for the following typical-confused-Democrat talking points to emerge:

What's the big deal here anyway? The Honorable Congressman is used to making decisions affecting trillions of dollars. It's only natural that a small detail of only a million bucks or two might get lost in the shuffle... Oh, and by the way, he's only getting all of this scrutiny because of racism. Halliburton, Halliburton, Halliburton...

Considering the levels of political corruption and malfeasance the Washington Compost turns a blind eye to, that this even made it in print there is a hugely damning indictment of Rangel.

I agree...

...and I would speculate that it is worse than has been reported.

...probably Charlie should be in jail...

..my favorite Democrat congressman, James Traficant just got out of jail...maybe Charlie can hire James as his adviser to help him cope while in jail?

I don’t think he’s an idiot. I think he is a crook with delusions of grandeur, and was so bad at it that even the Washington Post noticed.

Its useful but the WaPo did not call on him to resign from Congress. They only want a less visibly crooked RAT to run that powerful House committee.

A 30 year prison sentence would be nice. He would die in prison.... befitting.

Getting caught like he did says volumes about him from the neck up.

Hopefully all are aware that Rangel’s criminal exploits go at least all the way back to 1972 when he helped Louis Farrakhan’s Nation of Islam cover up the murder of NYPD cop Phillip Cardillo.

More on that case here:

Seeing as the RATS are so intent on persecuting/prosecuting CIA patriots.....wouldn’t it be nice to see the Pubbies regain control and have the spine to go after the crooked Rangel and hold him accountable for his shady dealings.
