Don't worry, we have a Republican Governor that will veto this nonsense.

(...Don't we?)

So any Californians know why the health insurance companies supported this new tax on themselves?

I write health insurance. I have not heard from any of my carriers that they support any new taxes on the insurers.

After 30 years they still have no idea that this stuff just ends up trickling down to consumers.

Which will be passed on the consumer. Why not raise taxes directly? I mean, why not cut out the middle-men (or women)?

“a 2.25% tax on the gross premiums of health insurance companies that serve Healthy Families, was supported by the industry.Republican lawmakers came under intense pressure in recent days as the health insurers lobbied them to support the measure”

This is a huge tax, on top of a premium tax that is already about 1.5%. As usual, CA will lead the nation, by a factor of 150%. It is guaranteed that this will be a direct pass through. In case you are wondering, this will add at least $60 on to your family premium, PER MONTH, the moment it goes into effect on your company plan.

Liberal lawmakers, of course, will IGNORE that the industry BACKED this tax on itself, and lobbied for it. No doubt, something much worse was in the cards if they didn’t.

I don’t see how this can stand if it doesn’t have a 2/3 majority.

Just brilliant. If you weren’t told better, you’d think these guys sit around all day saying, “What can we do to destroy capitalism and make California a wasteland?”

They don’t care—they find ways to not pay taxes—it’s the middle class that gets screwed. These goofy legislators get voted in year after year.

and they wonder why insurance costs are so high. The state should be giving people who get coverage a tax break, instead this tax will be passed onto consumers making health care less affordable.
