A Goddard, Kan., police officer admitted in federal court that he offered to have a woman’s drunken driving charge dismissed in exchange for sex, the U.S. Attorney’s office announced today.

Calvin Schaffer, 44, of Goddard, made the admission as part of a plea agreement. Schaffer pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud.

Authorities said he arrested a woman Feb. 27 for drunken driving. He later sent her a text message and said he could arrange to have the charges dismissed if she agreed to have sex with him.

Sorry to say that the police are becoming just as corrupt as our politicians! Laws are for the little people...

One second after he hit the 'send' button she had his nut$ in a box. If this cop were a fish he would be a dumb bass.

Pretty appalling that this is in Federal Court. Our founding fathers are spinning in their graves.

What happens when good men do nothing?

What kind of cop sends an incriminating text message? I mean, what the heck did he learn in police school about evidence?

Had he called her and asked, there'd be no proof, as she almost certainly wouldn't have taped it.

Also, why federal court for this? Did he send the text across state lines?

He also was accused of using police department computers to send nude pictures of himself to the woman. The messages traveled through Internet servers in California and Virginia.

Stupid, stupid, stupid. Ain't no sex in the world worth the trouble he's caused himself. I went to school with a guy who became a cop and did the same thing, 20 years ago, albeit not with a text. All that training and time, down the drain.

Picture, please, so I can determine if the officer’s actions were justified.

Not that I’m defending the guy, but it does make me wonder if he was really that stupid, or if the woman played him.

Either way, he’s equally wrong, but how did he get her cell number?

I could see it playing out that she’d offer him something to make the charge go away, he’d decline, but she gives him her phone number and after a lapse in judgement decides to take her up.

I know a lot of dumb guys, but not a lot of them risk their professional career on a traceable act of stupidity unless someone gives them enough rope to hang themselves.

The “war on drugs” like any prohibition has corrupted police in this country.

Yes..I don disagree, but it goes deeper than than. When the people at the top are corrupt, all those below tend to follow suit...

after a lapse in judgement decides to take her up

... on her offer. And after that it was on her and offer, and on her and offer.
