Without Public Option, Enthusiasm for Health Care Reform, Especially Among Democrats, Collapses
Rasmussen Reports ^ | August 19, 2009

Posted on 09/02/2009 5:45:21 PM PDT by Lorianne

Just 34% of voters nationwide support the health care reform plan proposed by President Obama and congressional Democrats if the so-called “public option” is removed. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 57% oppose the plan if it doesn't include a government-run health insurance plan to compete with private insurers.

Last week, Rasmussen Reports tracking found that support for the Congressional plan was at 42%.

While the tracking question did not specifically mention the public option, it referred to the bill proposed by the president and congressional Democrats now working its way through Congress. All of the congressional committees that had passed reform legislation included a government health insurance plan. Therefore, it is reasonable to compare those results with the current polling to measure the potential impact of dropping the public option.

The most dramatic impact is a sharp decline in enthusiastic support. Without the public option, only nine percent (9%) Strongly support the legislation. The earlier poll found 26% Strongly in favor of it.

That’s because it’s always been about the public option. the rest is just window dressing.

I heard today that the commie piggies have changed the term “public option” to “choice and competition.” I guess we better be on the lookout for that. You have to love the way the commies have to do a couple of focus groups before they can come up with the right term that the gullible among us will buy.

That is exactly it! This is not about health care. The left-wingers are only interested in increasing the power of the federal government.

Gee I wonder if the Democratic Congress can be reelected with 26% of the vote? *sarcasm*

Don't you know the 'public option' is just an 'option'? .

Okay. I am not going to dig into the article to resolve the math, but on the surface it looks like:

42% support the plan now. From this it is implied that 58% currently oppose the current plan.

If they remove the public option 57% will oppose. So they gain 1%. Am I missing something?

“That is exactly it! This is not about health care. The left-wingers are only interested in increasing the power of the federal government.”

I couldn’t have said it better myself. So it goes with most of what preoccupies the federal government, especially cap and tax. While our economy continues to go to hell, they are up there fiddling around trying to get more power for themselves, all to turn our once free country into a Soviet style dictatorship.

They lose the commie leftists and gain some squishy moderates.

HR 3200 was not a Health Care Plan. It was a demographic warfare bill to reduce the freedom of Americans. The most egregious part of HR 3200 barely made a blip on the radar. Even the Republicans said nothing about it SIC!

The privacy barrier on IRS information was breached by HR 3200. Nothing like HMOS having your tax data when they have to come bill collecting. Imagine if you had outstanding terminal care medical bills NOT COVERED by the health care plan!!!!!!

s 431:

SEC. 431. DISCLOSURES TO CARRY OUT HEALTH INSURANCE EXCHANGE SUBSIDIES.

‘‘(A) IN GENERAL.—The Secretary, upon written request from the Health Choices Commissioner or the head of a State-based health insurance exchange approved for operation under section 208 of the America’s Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009, shall disclose to officers and employees of the Health Choices Administration or such State-based health insurance exchange, as the case may be, return information of any taxpayer whose income is relevant in determining any affordability credit described in subtitle C of title II of the America’s Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009. Such return information shall be limited to—

‘‘(i) taxpayer identity information with respect to such taxpayer,

‘‘(ii) the filing status of such taxpayer,

‘‘(iii) the modified adjusted gross income of such taxpayer (as defined in section 59B(e)(5)),

‘‘(iv) the number of dependents of the taxpayer,

‘‘(v) such other information as is prescribed by the Secretary by regulation as might indicate whether the taxpayer is eligible for such affordability credits (and the amount thereof), and

‘‘(vi) the taxable year with respect to which the preceding information relates or, if applicable, the fact that such information is not available.

Yeah, you missed something. :-) 34 percent support it, down from 42 percent. 57 percent oppose it. 34 and 57 don’t equal 100, but there’s always people out there who can’t think for themselves and haven’t received their instructions yet.

It was never a ‘public’ option, anyway. That portion of the whole sham was to push the nation to a single payer system. It is the gateway to socialized medicine in the US, and must be avoided.

The Constitution does NOT guarantee your access to health care at ANY level. Never did. Get the government out of our lives and back within the confines of the Constitution, as written.

It’s time to take back the country.

If fewer people support the bill without the public option, doesn’t that mean the bill has more support with the public option, and wouldn’t that mean that the public option makes the bill easier to pass?

Proving that the Democrats are socialists, and that America is really two countries sharing the same land mass.
