Obama planning Sister Souljah moment over public option (with video)
Hot Air ^ | Sept. 2, 2009 | Ed Morrissey

Did Barack Obama learn a lesson from Bill Clinton on triangulation? Politico reports that the President will pivot on the “public option” in ObamaCare and take on the left wing of his party. Obama senses an opportunity to gain credibility as a moderate, but that will hardly help Obama in the polls:

Obama is considering detailing his health-care demands in a major speech as soon as next week, when Congress returns from the August recess. And although House leaders have said their members will demand the inclusion of a public insurance option, Obama has no plans to insist on it himself, the officials said.

“We’re entering a new season,” senior adviser David Axelrod said in a telephone interview. “It’s time to synthesize and harmonize these strands and get this done. We’re confident that we can do that. But obviously it is a different phase. We’re going to approach it in a different way. The president is going to be very active.” …

On health care, Obama’s willingness to forgo the public option is sure to anger his party’s liberal base. But some administration officials welcome a showdown with liberal lawmakers if they argue they would rather have no health care law than an incremental one. The confrontation would allow Obama to show he is willing to stare down his own party to get things done.

Obama’s problem will be not just defying his own party base, but … his own words, such as this from just three months ago:

I predict that in order to “drop” the public option the bill will grow to 2 thousand pages.

The art of compromise is lost on the Dems!
They continually move the goal posts!

bill clinton was a southern democrat so triangulation was always his thing. Obama will just look like he doesn’t have a clue.

The problem with this tactic (if it is what he's going to try) is that the emperor has no clothes. If Politico is reporting this "strategy" ahead of time, his fellow radicals on the left are going to see right through it, and not like... lol

There's one campaign promise fulfilled eh? Being the most transparent admin in history. No doubt... we see right through you.

Another thread has Fox News claiming he'll instead push the Dems to push for the plans already presented in Congress.

Yeah, that’ll work. After insisting on it...he is gonna have a “come to Jesus” moment.

What a pant load.

Hussein is a liar. A bad liar.

Dropping the public option won't fix the bill. Daschle had advised that step a long time ago. This phony compromise is just a way to get the bill passed with some Rep support. You can bet that anything that Obama announces has been cleared with Reid and Pelosi. More smoke and mirrors.

Former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle said on Wednesday that the Obama White House would likely have to scrap a federal public option for health insurance coverage if it wanted to get the votes needed to pass systematic change

We've come too far and gained too much momentum for our efforts to fail over disagreement on one single issue," the Senator and one-time HHS Secretary nominee said, according to ABC News.

The remarks came after Dashcle, along with former Senate Majority Leaders Bob Dole and Howard Baker introduced his own proposal for health care reform. That plan actually included a version of a government-run option. The Daschle proposal calls for (among other things) public insurance pools to be administered by state government, not the feds.

It won't work because the Sister Souljah moment occurred before most people had formed an opinion on Bill Clinton or his policies. It happened early in the campaign. Had Obama gone off on Reverend Wright or MoveOn during the campaign he could have had a Sister Souljah moment. But now the vast majority of people know he is a Marxist at heart. About 30% are Marxists as well and love him for it. Around 45% don't like Marxists and are now strongly against him. The remaining 25% are watching American Idol and have no idea what a Marxist is.

So if he goes on TV and attempts to do a Sister Souljah moment 30% will ignore him because they know he is really on their side, 45% will ignore him because they already think he is a manipulative Marxist, and 25% will ignore him because dancing with the stars is on the other channel.

Let the post turtle try it. Obama already played “moderate” in the campaign and then showed his red underbelly. The main of Americans will not be fooled again.

Obama senses an opportunity to gain credibility as a moderate

Forget it. Delusional. It'll only further the growing impression that Obama/Washington is like a train off the tracks, plowing up soil and brush in its path...totally out of control...no direction, etc. Anyway, last November showed us how much traction you can gain by running as a "moderate."

Obama is such a tool, he is of, for and with the extreme left and has demonstrated that fact for any that will see. I think this strategy is the last straw man for BO, failure here will open the door dor us to see the real redman in the WH.

Understand this. He needs something anything passed, good or bad.

His best hope for himself would be a truly bi-partision bill but with liberals and republicans differences, it’s impossible. (he wants Blue Dogs and RINOs to pass a bill)

Another tip is that single payer leftys at MSNBC are claiming this failure will hurt Obama in 2012. But what would hurt Obama is if it fails AND republicans only gain enough seats to cause gridlock, but not enough to be held responsible again, (like in 1995.) That would kill Obama in 2012.

I consider myself to be a progressive conservative, in the model of Jack Kemp and Newt. I care about the poor and the urban economy. Black unemployment is much higher it was under Bush...and even then it was still very high. What is obama doing about it? So what if he’s black...doesn’t help them one bit.
Why offer entitlements to everyone? Shouldn’t the govt just help those that truly can’t help themselves instead of giving $ to everyone? If we just focused on the truly sick and poor, we’d be able to treat them better.
