ObamaCare and the 'R' Word
Pajamas Media ^ | Sept. 2 | Jennifer Rubin

As House members and senators drift back from the August recess with the shouts of angry constituents still ringing in their ears, they face a knock-down, drag-out fight over the fate of health care reform. And while conservatives may take pride in the outpouring of public opposition to a government-run health care program, they shouldn’t take comfort. The future of American health care and control of 17 percent of the economy may be determined by a procedural sleight of hand and an anonymous bureaucrat.

How could this be? Well, earlier this year Senate Democrats pushed through reconciliation instructions in the budget. Although Senate Budget Chair Kent Conrad objected, he was in fact the decisive vote to bring out of committee and to the floor for passage a federal budget with a set of instructions that now could control the health care debate.

A Senate aide describes reconciliation as “a partisan process rigged in favor of the majority.” It works as follows: The Democratic Senate leadership would at some point make a decision to use reconciliation rather than the normal lawmaking process to pass health care. The budget instructions would come to the floor and together with the proposed health care bill go to Senate Parliamentarian Alan Frumin. Appointed by both parties after then-Majority Leader Trent Lott fired his predecessor, he is supposedly a neutral arbitrator of the Senate rules, but simple survival dictates that his rulings will generally favor the majority.

The next plan of action should be what to do when (not if) it does pass.
(What will happen during the two years prior to implementation of the program?)

Reconciliation wont work for this. The left wing wants to force 60 dem Senators to vote for cloture. This is an empty threat. Many on MSNBC have admitted this.

I thought I read that if a bill is passed under the reconciliation procedure, it can be demanded that it be read into the record... all 1000+ pages of it. This would take a long time... and publicize the most controversial parts of the bill.

Evidently there is no end to the processes and obfuscations that the Democrats/liberals can and will use ... if they are blocked one way they will create a loophole, and do it anyway.

God help us in our day, in the the name of Jesus, Your Son and our Lord and Salvation. Amen.

You will be sentenced to community service, working for ACORN.

Reconciliation wont work, it’s an empty threat. Calm down

Well, we will have to “sign up” for something and if we refuse to sign up (as many do on car insurance) then what? Have you seen how all the people who carry no car insurance continue to drive anyway?

Exactly!
The ultimate goal of the dems is power. If this doesn’t pass, apparently the government hasn’t created enough of a crisis to make the ‘public’ demand they do ‘something’ to fix it.
They created this problem in the first place. They won’t rest until they acheive their goal.

MSNBC liberal update, 'public plan' may be now called a 'trigger' to fool democrats on both sides to vote for it

They are counting on Sen Olympia Snow to sell out on trigger + all 59 democrats in Senate to fall in line. I don't see it happening. Many Libs still say they would rather have bill go down than no public option, some are bluffing but many are not.

The liberal theory could be that blue Dogs more likely to lose election than liberals if it goes down.
