A Gwinnett County man is in custody Wednesday accused of slapping a stranger’s crying toddler in a Stone Mountain Wal-Mart.

Witnesses say that Roger Stephens, 61, warned the mother of the child that he would “shut up the crying child if she couldn’t,” WSB-TV is reporting. Stephens is accused of slapping the 2-year-old multiple times in the face and then walking away.

A bystander held Stephens until store security came to assist, according to the story.

It’s simply your opinion of a situation you have absolutely no experience dealing with. Being an “armchair quaterback” is easy.

It’s simply your going way out of your way to blatantly misinterpret everything I’ve said to give you reason to be angry.

In my post 102 that you addressed: I also see some posters assuming the child was having a tantrum. Guess they don’t know any kids who get hungry or sleepy.

You stated in your post 134: We do know kids who get hungry or sleepy. We also know that it’s the parent’s job to deal with it, not ours, and when we have to hear your kid complaining we want you to do something about it.

Your post 148: So you just let your kid scream their way through the store never attempting to quiet them

I was addressing the article. You tried to make it personal and I obliged. You are giving an opinion a situation that you have never been in. I take your opinion with a grain of salt. You don't like it. Oh well.

there are babysitters and nursery schools

Everytime one has to go to the store? Childless are ya?

Liberals have children and dump them on others to raise, not conservatives.

That's the funniest damn thing I've heard this morning.

There are also offices, restaurants, stores, etc., in which many parents work while the babysitter or daycare center is taking care of the children. At some point, the family probably needs to shop, and they should be able to do so without coming under assault.

There's a business opportunity there, perhaps ... professional shopper for the auditorily traumatized ... although eventually, one would assume their hearing would fade to the point they no longer cared.

Very clever which posts you skipped. Like 140: Got any kids? Or 142: Hardly. I get tired of hearing expert opinions from those who have never done the work. Or 146: Spoken like a true expert.

Who made it personal? I think that was YOU. You decided you wanted to get angry so you went way out of your way to ignore the bulk of post 134 (That tends to be the source of aggravation, not really the kid being loud, but the parent that seems oblivious. If the parent is at least trying we can generally live with it, but way to many parents these days are just going about their stuff “what there’s something I’m supposed to be in charge of making 100 dB noises damaging the hearing of everyone else in the store?”) and take other pieces of the post completely out of context (138: I see. Good parents 2 year olds are never tired, hungry or thirsty. Got it) and have continued down a path of increasing aggression.

If you don’t want it to be personal then STOP MAKING IT PERSONAL. You’re the one that’s taken that path while I’m discussing generic non-personal good parent and bad parents.

It must be hard being so delicate that you can’t go anywhere without having your sensibilities brutalized. I’m prepared to feel sorry for the person, as long as he doesn’t hit people.

Maybe he could move to “The Villages,” where just about everyone’s over 55.

The 2-year-old victim sustained slight redness to the face, according to the report.

Stephens was charged with felony cruelty and is being held in a cage at the Gwinnett County Detention Center without bond.

I swear, I don't know who the bad guys are any more...It use to be easy...Not anymore.

Nursery schools? You mean daycares and preschools? You do know that those don't take children on an hourly basis? Or even a daily? You have to pay for a month at a time....minimum.

You clearly don't have any children. And you don't have a clue about childcare. The average cost for a babysitter is $15 per hour per child. If mom's shopping at WalMart, I'm guessing she doesn't have that kind of dough to dish out, just to please you. Maybe you should try getting a grip.

Hasn’t your hearing been so damaged now that all you need do is turn off your hearing aids while in Wal-mart?

I don't ask someone who has never owned a dog how to housebreak a puppy. Why would I put stock in the opinions of someone who never raised a child?

You mean discussing the content of your posts, which have repeated emphasized hearing damage, and even specified a decibel level?

Perhaps some of us are just more literal-minded than others.

But you’re not discussing the content of my posts, you’re taking a small part out of context and using that to build a half-assed insult.

The ACTUAL content of my posts is about bad parents who do nothing to quiet their kids, and in the process make the world harder for good parents that actually pay attention to their kids by annoying the general public to the point where everybody grimaces when they see a kid in a store.

Of course I expect you to continue to completely ignore that, because you can’t make that personal.

He’d never have to slap my kids for crying in public, I’d have had that handled instantly.
