HARTFORD, Conn. -- Gov. Jodi Rell said she will use her line-item veto power to comb through a budget approved by the General Assembly early Tuesday morning.
The bill passed the Democrat-controlled House on a 103-45 vote at about midnight. All House Republicans voted in opposition of the bill, joined by nine Democrats. The Democrat-controlled Senate passed it 22-13 early after 2 a.m. Tuesday, with one Democrat voting with the opposing GOP.
Rell said she will not sign the budget because she doesn't agree with it, but that she will not veto it. She said the budget would take effect in five days without her signature.
Democratic leaders called the $37.6 billion tax and spending plan "a balanced approach" to closing the state's budget deficit and ending a months-long impasse ...

She should be removed. I’m proud of the GOP in CT with the exception Gov Rell. She is a big disappointment. The good thing is that it appears the GOP is positioned to pick up seats in Connecticut next go around.
If we had a DEM governor, it would rebuild the GOP in the state legislature. Rell has hindered that process and has seen the DEMS build up a huge majority in the state House.
Do I hear any outrage among the wealthy GOP to their Governor who just taxed them to death? Will those pathetic folks ever wake up?
$36bil for such a small state seems like a lot.
She is absolutely useless (or rather, a useful idiot for the Democrats), and the CT GOP has crashed on her watch and sinks further with each successive election. She even gave away the power to appoint a Senator, which the GOP was prepared to defend her over. She absolutely needs to go next year. I’m personally surprised the media hasn’t touted this liberal RINO imbecile for President for 2012. They love epic failure Governors that cripple our party.
The dumbest reaction to Rell I have ever read was that of Michael Medved (of all people), who touted her as a GOP VP candidate in 2008 because she had successfully stopped gay marriage in CT and instead signed a civil-union bill. How could anyone consider her a moderate—as opposed to a liberal—Republican?
Medved has fallen off my radar screen of particularly perceptive political pundits.
Romney-lite.
She seems worse.
At least Romney vetoed the bill taking his power to appoint Senators.
As to Medved. He’s a clearly a moron and a poor movie reviewer.
Romney’s veto was over-ridden by an 85% ‘rat legislature.
Well, the dif was that Slick Willard is a control freak. He didn’t want any power being taken from him. She tried to rationalize the power being stripped from her, which had nothing to do with what was best for the people of CT, but everything to do with keeping the Senate seats firmly in Dem hands (all because the Dems haven’t been able to win the Governorship since 1986).
Well now we know why Rell has a 70% approval rating. She caves in too much. As a result, the media builds her up. Don’t be surprised if Rell praises Dodd next year.
