Aides to President Barack Obama are putting the final touches on a new strategy to help Democrats recover from a brutal August recess by specifying what Obama wants to see in a compromise health care deal and directly confronting other trouble spots, West Wing officials tell POLITICO.

“On health care, Obama’s willingness to forgo the public option is sure to anger his party’s liberal base”

I wonder what the Unions will say. The dummies are going to have another meltdown over at DU.

As Mark Steyn pointed out, the whole Bill is a death panel.

Obama is considering detailing his health-care demands in a major speech as soon as next week, when Congress returns from the August recess.

Would Obozo dare do another "major" speech in prime time with the 'nets new season starting up?

Of course he would!

They haven’t seen it yet. They are still applauding the Union story.

“specifying what Obama wants to see in a compromise health care deal”

These politicians just don’t get it. We don’t care what Obama wants to see in a bill, the lawmakers should be looking to see what, if anything, the American public wants in a healthcare bill. Besides which, why do Presidents keep thinking that it’s their job to craft legislation? Isn’t that the job of, I don’t know, maybe the legislative branch? The executive branch is there to sign or not sign the laws, and once they are signed (or passed over a veto), his job is to enforce them.

I could understand these things in elementary school, they are not that complicated!

It isn’t official until they record the votes. These vermin are not to be trusted. Not a single one of them, for any reason.

These vermin are not to be trusted.

It's looking a bit too easy to me.

This is the initial phase of a two-pronged strategy: propose insanity and then concede ground to the level of stupidity.

I've seen this before with taxes: propose a staggering increase at first, then "negotiate" down to some lower level and call it "moderate."

Obama:"You don't always get everything you want. But if you can't pass fundamental health care reform on the first day, you build the infrastructure you need to support it on the 100th day."

To that I say - in the words of General Anthony McAuliffe - "Nuts!"

Seems to me that Bob Beckel wrote a column says the rats were playing rope a dope with everyone and once they (the rats) appeared to cave on something big - like the public option - that the GOP would feel like they had to go along with the rest of the bill.

However, this article only says that Obama won’t insist on it...but Congress may. There he is again, acting like a bystander in his own Presidency.
