Hundreds of protesters air fears of federal power grab under Obama (Las Vegas -- VIDEO AND SLIDES)

The government wants to control when and how you die, what you can access online and, frankly, pretty much everything else you do in your private life.

So said hundreds of people Monday at a gathering billed as one stop on a nationwide tour that will culminate with a humongous event in Washington, D.C., intended to let the big shots on Capitol Hill know who's really in charge.

"I'm scared," said one of those hundreds, Patricia Somers, 62, who traveled from Thousand Oaks, Calif., to Las Vegas, the closest tour stop for the Tea Party Express. "We're losing so much."

Somers said she heard about the rally either through the Internet or on Fox News, she couldn't recall. That's what many of the people at the rally said.

Organizers estimated the crowd ranged between 700 and 900. The parking lot was packed so full that larger SUVs were forced to park on top of curbs and medians.

The rally was staged Monday morning in the sweltering parking lot of the Sports Center of Las Vegas on Sunset Road, behind McCarran International Airport.

The crowd's basic issue: Since the election of Barack Obama as president, the government seems to be getting really huge. There is health care, of course, but also many other things. Taxes. The aforementioned Internet. How you choose to raise your children.

-snip-

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., was a favorite target at the rally.

For example, a T-shirt: "Arlen Specter (he's a senator who switched to the Democratic party) is a hemmroid on Harry Reid's brain."

Oh, you really MUST watch this video! (I hope someone uploads it to YouTube!)

In all my born days, I've never seen media coverage for our causes as I'm seeing now.

P.S. The slideshow is good too!

She has every right to be scared with the bunch running things.

And that is big. Infatuation is by its nature fleeting, but fear stays with you. Obama took over by being the pop star, but such fame lasts only until the next new fad comes along, and is soon forgotten. But people are experiencing real fear, real loss, and the feeling they are being cheated. Those feelings will not go away, not completely. And in November of 2010 the people will remember.

These are the people in the "Strongly Disapprove" segment of the daily Ras tracking poll. Obama can never get them back. It is easy to slip from mildly approve to mildly disapprove. But once the sort of things that move you into strongly disapprove are not the kind that go away.

All but one of the people interviewed were over 60 and it looked like most of the crowd was, too. That bodes ill for the DemonRats, since they depend on oldsters as one of their major voting blocks.

Yeah, many of them are in the 60s plus group, and I’m not too far behind. We are the last generation that has lived in a “Free America”. Most of us missed out on the social engineering and public school indroctrination that our kids and grandkids have been subjected to. My predictions are: home school to be illegal, censored, monitored internet “access”, being a practicing Christian, then us rural folks will be moved into more Urban areas(the New Ghettos”) w/ land confiscation, euthansia of my age group...all in my remaining lifetime. Check out old movies Soylent Green, Logan’s Run, 1984...I’m scared for my kids and grandies.
