Congresswoman: August health protests just a 'YouTube phenomenon' By Michael O'Brien - 09/01/09 01:27 PM ET
The boisterous protests that plagued lawmakers' town hall meetings in August were primarily a "YouTube phenomenon," one Democratic congresswoman suggested Tuesday.
Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) said that many of the outbursts at town halls have been manufactured, and accused the Republican National Committee (RNC) of "trying to put fear in seniors' hearts" in a new television ad to air in Florida.
"Mostly we're dealing with a sensational reaction as a YouTube phenomenon," Wasserman Schultz said in a conference call organized by the Florida Democratic Party. "A lot of these antics at the healthcare town halls...have been manufactured."
The Florida lawmaker, a chief deputy whip in the House Democratic leadership, said that the RNC's new ad touting its "Seniors' Health Care Bill of Rights," which will target senior citizens in Florida, are "nothing more than a scare tactic."
"They are trying to put fear in seniors' hearts, and scare them into believing somehow they're going to lose their benefits, which simply isn't true," she said. "It's clear that Republicans don't care about reform, they care about politics."
Keep telling yourself that Congresswoman.
If August 2009 has taught us anything, it’s the arrogance of these congressional clunkers knows no bounds.
i think she know here words are pure B.S. - this is for those fools who might actually believe it - i.e. the Obama voters.
These people are raving liars. They say outright that they are going to eliminate Medicare Advantage, then turn around and say if you like what you have you can keep it.
Apparently they think we are too dumb to notice that the statements are mutually exclusive.
She is an idiot, had a “telephone town hall” because she was too scared to have a real town hall.
She is in a very safe district.
The hell it isn't!
Maybe it’s not so far fetched.
My “benchmark libinlaw” has outright told me that it is possible for two contradictory statements to be true at the same time in the same way.
A YouTube phenom...? Yeah, seniors are glued to their 1200 baud dialup Win 3.1 PC watching YouTube. Good grief!
Isn’t this the one with the mangled teeth?
The RNC doesn’t have to put fear in seniors minds. The dems have already done that with HR 3200.
It’s called “Cognitive Dissonance” and Bubba was a master at it. The Anointed “0”ne prefers lying straight-up and unadorned...
