U.S. Rep. Brian Baird backed out of a promise to hold a living room meeting at the home of a Pacific County Republican chairwoman, the GOP activist said Monday.
Nan Malin of Long Beach said a Baird staffer told her the private meeting was nixed because of unspecified posts Malin had written on a right-leaning blog.
"It's really the congressman's loss," Malin said. "He's really missing an opportunity to have a real dialogue. These town halls have not had a real dialogue."
A representative for Baird, D-Vancouver, said tonight's 7 p.m. public town hall at Ilwaco High School would serve more people than Malin's invitation-only event.
"When we realized the size of the audience that we might have, that's when we moved it," said Baird's district director, Kelly Love. "She asked him to come do a town hall in her community, and that's absolutely what we're doing."
But that wasn't Baird's promise, Malin said. In a public phone call last month, Baird had agreed to meet Malin "in your living room."
"It's like the congressman is telling people what he thinks they want to hear, including me," Malin said.

Rep. Baird Retreats From Living Room Meet
Baird continues to claim he hasn't made up his mind on the healthcare bill, but every critical comment or question he receives at townhalls or tele-conferences is met with either a defensive or supportive comment in regards to the bill.
Backing out of the agreed upon meet in Nansen Malin home due to "blog posts," how can anyone accept his word on anything?
So Canada has a representative in the U.S. congress now?
;^)
That’s America’s Vancouver...
This Baird sounds like your typical modern fascist ~ trying to distract folks from checking out the “Hero” badge on the lapel of his brownshirt.
We had a Vancouver before Canada did, but they get all the notoriety.
PING!
Typical Democrat...just unable to debate...
wish we could get former VP Cheney and Robert Gibbs the Presidents spokesman to debate or even let him debate the daughter, Liz Cheney...
Folks we must vote out incumbents from office in 2010, then in 2012 B.Hussein O. must go also...
