American’s are not the same sort of downtrodden and abused people of the USSR after 50 years of communist rule.

I think that's true, so there is reason to hope for our future. But on the other hand, if the Left believes that the time is ripe, and if they push for a collapse, that will set off very ugly events. The outcome may not be what the Left wants, and the USA may be preserved in the end -- but any coordinated effort to end the US will create an ugly time for us all.

And, yeah, I really Obama will make the attempt.
