1969: Bloodless coup in Libya King Idris of Libya has been deposed in what appears to have been a bloodless coup.
A group of military officers have seized power and declared the country a republic. But the king, who is in Turkey, has dismissed the coup as "unimportant".

Now that Browne and Obama have bent over and kissed Omar’s butt, he will probably start rebuilding his weapons of mass destruction to improve his standing in the Arab world.
I’m sure the Obama, Brown and Clinton all think that this is the way to achieve harmony with dictators..some good solid appeasement to honor the beginning of WWII.
Now we have really excellent ability to loft a bomb into Omar’s tent..but we can only dream about that.
This brings back memories for me. I was in Tripoli at Wheelus AFB when all of the action took place. I was stationed at RAF Lakenheath and was TDY there.
The most memorable event was that every metal trash can and bar-b-que pit was used to burn sensitive documents.
