Ben & Jerrys is temporarily renaming popular Chubby Hubby ice cream Hubby Hubby beginning today to celebrate the start of legalized gay marriage in its home state of Vermont.
The legalization of marriage for gay and lesbian couples in Vermont is certainly a step in the right direction, and something worth celebrating with peace, love - and plenty of ice cream, Ben & Jerrys CEO Walt Freese said in announcing the sugary switch.
Ben & Jerrys, which has long backed liberal causes, plans to rebrand Chubby Hubby as Hubby Hubby for 30 days to show support for Vermonts new law.
The move is mostly symbolic, as Burlington-based Ben & Jerrys isnt changing labels on Chubby Hubby pints sold in stores.

"Gay Marriage" ice cream: dedicated to the principle that some people will put ANYthing in their mouths. ;)
They can take their ice cream and cram it.
I guess I’ll never eat any of their ice cream again.
They could name it "Marry Your Goat", for all I care.
I hope they’ve added extra fudge!!
When are they going to come out with the “Fudge Packer” flavor?
Why not call it “Nuts in my Buddy”? How about “Fudgepackin my Hubby”? Sky’s the limit with tolerance and diversity. sarc
I’m sure they will.
Better names would have been FudgePacker Sundae, C**ksmoker Vanilla.
“Reacharound Raspberry!” ;)
“Crunchy Carpet-Munchy”?
Whatever happened to Liberty Ice Cream, which was a premium product with a patriotic/conservative theme to answer the diseased communist ideology of BJ ice cream.
We visited the B&J factory in Vt about 15 years ago. They feature a film that explains how B&J treat their employees and how they pay them. It also talks about how the world would be a better place if we all took a page out of the B&J business model. There is NO incentive to move up the corporate ladder. Pay scales vary by only a smidge.
Thanks! AT one time I LIKED fudge.
Looks like they just did....
I don't understand why a company that sells a universally popular product such as ice cream would purposefully alienate greater than half the country with their political views.
The only reason could be that the guy doesn't care about selling ice cream, or being in Vermont, tone deaf as to the majority of what people outside his state feels about this issue.
Queerest thing ever!
Why isn’t there one called “wifey wifey”?
How many Freepers are loyal customers of Ben and Jerry’s and won’t change that?
Next thing ya know... they'll be selling this stuff from a Big Gay Ice Cream Truck.
Oh wait. They are....
