It seems obvious the question is whether Obama will “triangulate” like Clinton or simply ride his leftism down to utter destruction. I’m guessing the latter.

I'm not so sure. He is the kind that lets poll numbers guide his decisions. He loves being in power more than anything and as it becomes clearer to him that he's going downhill fast, he just might abandon a few things on his "wish list".
Unlike Clinton, this guy has some core values (few of which I agree with). I am sure Gibbs is correct, and Barry is willing to go down with the ship.
