WASHINGTON -- Lawmakers are suggesting that U.S. Sen. Ted Kennedy's widow, Vicki, could fill his seat despite her professed reluctance to take the job.

"Whatever Vicki wants to do, I'm in her corner," Democratic U.S. Sen. Chris Dodd said Sunday, speaking to CNN television.

Dodd noted that Vicki Kennedy, 55, had said she is not interested in succeeding her late husband, "but she could change her mind, and if she did, I'm for it. I think she'd be great."

The longtime Democratic senator added: "I think she brings talent and ability to it and to fill that spot I think is something the people of Massachusetts would welcome. We could use her in the Senate.

It’s not about selecting the best person for Massachusetts, it’s about making the most emotional decision at the time. I hope the people of the Great Commonwealth will come to their senses.

Such followship and family worship is akin to a title of nobility.

They are violating the spirit of the Constitution with this pandering to a family; but it it technically not illegal.

All these birds of a feather are just what we need in our government.

As Mr. Kennedy himself imposed a law on the people of Mass. that declared that the governor cannot appoint an interim senator, I believe it is illegal. As usual.. it only applies if the governor is a republican.

It seems I remember reading an article that stated Orrin Hatch saying the exact same thing...all this Kennedy stuff starts running together after awhile. Same cRAT, different Kennedy.

Massachush*tts keeps sending real winners to Washington, D.C.: all of the Kennedy trash, Barney Frank, John Kerry. I’m surprised that the Boston Globe isn’t touting Whitey Bulger for a possible Ted Kennedy Senate replacement.

I think there is a ‘family’ feud regarding that seat.

If she had any honor she would realize the Kennedys have done enough damage to this country and not seek or accept any appointment.

I'd take Whitey Bulger, an honest thief and murderer, over another self-righteous Kennedy!

This event is irrefutable evidence that the Liberals who control the Democrat party are self-actualized Machiavellians.

To hell with the law - Do anything to remain in power.

Dodd just wants to get Vickie alone in a senate cloak room. So he can discuss legal briefs with her.

If she had any honor, she wouldn't have married into the Kennedys. I swear, if we had a REAL aristocracy, we couldn't have done worse. And they've invested Rum-Runner Joe's money so cannily that they'll never be broke. I don't see any way to get rid of them.
