UPDATE: AFTER A SHORT DELAY, THE L/B KAYD LAUNCHED AT APPROXIMATELY 10:30 DST, APRIL 30.
April 30, 2009, Atlantic City, NJAn international team of researchers working under the auspices of the Integrated Ocean Drilling program launched the New Jersey Shallow Shelf Expedition this morning in the early hours, taking advantage of the high tide to sail to the continental shelf just off the New Jersey shore. There, they will conduct coring operations to collect geological sediments that will inform them about Earth cycles that relate to sea level change, the mechanisms that force it, and that have impacted the geography of the shoreline over time.
Researchers have drilled on the coastal plan and the continental slope to learn about sea level change from its highest to lowest levels over the last 35 million years, says co-chief scientist Gregory Mountain of Rutgers University, Dept. of Earth and Planetary Sciences. Access to the records in our current drill target will provide us with missing information that bridges those two sets of records. The new samples will enable us to determine time, rate and magnitude of changes that have occurred over the last 35 million years and lead us to improve our understanding of coastal response to sea level rise, one aspect of climate change.

But, what if they strike oil?
‘international team of researchers working under the auspices of the Integrated Ocean Drilling program ‘-—I’m guessing the ‘international’ part of the team is China or Russia....and I’m guessing they are looking, exactly, for oil.
So we can drill for dirt, but not oil eh?
What the?? Gore Bull warming "experts" said it was melting ice caps 9that aren't melting) that make sea levels rise..
This is eally going to throw a wrench in Gore bull warming scams.
“But, what if they strike oil?”
Well, Obama will be on the phone immdeiately to offer it to another country - just as he has done before.
” The Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP) is an international marine research program dedicated to advancing scientific understanding of the Earth through drilling, coring, and monitoring the subseafloor. Hundreds of the worlds preeminent scientists participate in IODP expeditions. Program information appears at http://www.iodp.org."
What a waste of time and money.
We need OIL!
What’s their “mission”?
Mission:
The Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP), an international scientific research program supported by 24 countries, advances scientific understanding of the Earth by monitoring, drilling, sampling, and analyzing subseafloor environments. IODP:
deploys state-of-the-art ocean drilling technologies as its essential tool of discovery,
unifies the international research community to explore Earth as a system,
advances future research and discovery through dissemination of data and samples from global archives, and
provides scientific context for global awareness of geohazards and environmental change.
Ah, GLOBAL AWARENESS for the ENVIRONMENT!
Another left wing group.
They'll have to put up a windmill
