Mitt barely won the state he grew up in (primary) after spending millions, and even that was only when McCain blundered bad with his auto industry comments. That's despite his dad being governor here. He couldn't close the deal. There was always a doubt factor. People didn't trust him.
The truth was neither Mitt or McCain had a real chance in 08.
