One rule of thumb I generally observe while traveling abroad: Always know what something is before putting it in your mouth. Recently, I broke that rule--and ended up regretting it.
I ate whale meat.
I didn't mean to. It just sort of happened during an otherwise routine company enkai--office party--at a hole-in-the-wall izakaya called Andy's Shin Hinomoto under the Yurakucho railroad tracks in central Tokyo. I ordered a beer and sat down next to my co-workers, just as the waitress was bringing out plates of food: generous cuts of sashimi, deep-fried chicken nuggets, a sautéed mushroom salad and--what the heck was that? On a plate next to some lettuce leaves and a wedge of tomato were thin-cut strips of stringy red meat.

My girlfriend’s 13 year old and I watched that show a couple of weeks ago. He was shocked when I went into a rant about how the whalers ought to sink the eco-freaks ship in defense of the piracy tactics employed against them.
I was promoting ramming their ship, installing a deck cannon, or a classic side by side boarding party to beat the snot out of the eco pirates and disabling their ship.
Bravo! My son has suffered poor grades in some of his college classes because he dared to expose the class to points of view which opposed the professor’s indoctrination material.
I guess this liberal loony needs to off himself to get over the guilt of eating whale meat. The horrors.
That sounds like something clinton would say.
Actually Clinton's defense was, "I didn't know what SHE was eating until it was too late!".
Man I love horse sashimi when it's very cold and sliced thin with ginger and shoyu on the side-good stuff.
I've had whale a few times, I'm not fond of it. Too strong a taste for me. My FIL eats whale three times a week or so though, he loves it.
I watch that show sometimes, as a sailor for 24 years in the Navy it’s like watching a slow motion train wreck. I’m always amazed they haven’t killed anyone yet. Absolute idiots.
