Iranian Nuclear Threat Targets U.S., Israel
NewsMax ^ | Aug. 30, 2008

The Islamic republic has test-fired missiles capable of reaching Israel, southeastern Europe and U.S. bases in the Mideast, and published reports say Iran is within a year of developing its own nuclear bomb.

And security experts warn that even one nuclear device in the hands of a rogue nation could be used against the United States in a devastating electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack.

So why isn't the Obama administration doing more to prevent a nuclear nightmare?

“I get very, very nervous about it,” Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Mich., told Newsmax.TV's Kathleen Walter. “I think Iran will have a nuclear weapon. I think now it's only a question of when.”

The United States is caught in the middle of a Mideast faceoff between one of its strongest allies, Israel, and Iran. Iran has threatened to wipe Israel off the world map, and Israel refuses to rule out a pre-emptive strike on its adversary while insisting that Iran must not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons.

If the United States tries to prevent Iran from making nuclear weapons, its president, Mahmoud Amedinejad, has vowed a campaign of bloody revenge.

“[Iran's hatred of Israel] is rooted in ideology,” said Walid Phares of Foundation for Defense of Democracies. “The Iranian regime is jihadist, and they do not acknowledge nor accept the idea that a non-Islamic, non-jihadist state could exist in the region.”

"So why isn't the Obama administration doing more to prevent a nuclear nightmare?"

".... my new presidential helicopter.
... it would let me cook a meal while under nuclear attack."

Remember when all of these people were saying Iraq had weapons of Mass destruction and finally George Bush decided to do something about it?

He got demonised for taking out Saddam and going to Iraq, by the very people who convinced him that Iraq was a threat.

Are the pundits right this time? Is Iran about to become a nuclear threat?

I believe they are. But I also believe we needed to go to Iraq. We didnt do it right, but it had to be done. Can Obama do it right.? I dont think so. Obama hasnt the courage of a George Bush. Obama will wait until Iran fires their rockets at Israel and then will apologise for not seing it coming.

Once more, the EMP scare raises it’s head.

Bear in mind that a successful EMP attack would require an attack from space, and that the weapon would need to be big. Really big. Like 1 to 5 Mt. An enriched Uranium device is capable of 30kt max, if you know what you are doing. Only advanced Hydrogen weapons are capable of such yields, and they require plutonium. Lots of it.

While 30kt is nothing to sneeze at, it is a far cry from a national calamity. It would be suicide on the part of any aggressor.

The response would be immediate, and devastating. Even Obama could not roll over when we are attacked with a nuke. It would cause a revolution.

Finally some sanity instead of BS. 9 out of 10 people would be dead in a year? Where the hell did that come from?

Don’t forget that American troops are in the Israeli desert with missile radar detection. They might look the wrong way when Iran starts shooting.

This article is crap!

How is an EMP attack on a US Mideast base going to knock out the US electrical grid and kill 90% of all people in the US?

This pegs the “BS” meter...

The article is not about an EMP attack. That was one sentence.

It’s about a nuclear Iran

Then stick to the facts and stop with the "9 out of 10 Dead Americans prefer EMP" horse crap.

You see how that one sentence sent this thread off the rails and down the ravine? Most of us are now hopelessly lost, and the article is tossed like yesterday's newspaper.

All credibility is lost when the author just stuffs junk in a story to meet the word count requirement.
