About as fantasy land as you can have an economic recovery from a recession without job creation.
If it turns out this long-held maxim is a myth, then what else is? How about the idea the war on drugs is better than legalizing them. There's a rub here though. We tried that with booze in the 20’s and it turned out to be a failure. If it didn't work for booze why would it work for drugs.
And how about the idea that political correctness makes life in the US better?
And then there's affirmative action.
Maybe it's time a lot of government BS be re-evaluated based on results, not intent or feelings.
I am not an economist and I haven't spent the night in a Holiday Inn Express in years, but I would bet good money that we are in for an inflationary spiral that will knock out socks off!

IS inflation. What we are waiting for is the effect of that inflation on the general price level.

I'm with stupid POTHEAD. The war on drugs is stupid, enriches criminals, and licenses police to prey on the populace through the forfeiture laws.
And, relevant to the posted topic, inflation is coming if we have ANY recovery. Bernanke will not be able to pull out all of the injected money without raising rates enough to cause another recession. I believe the target is 70's style inflation to reduce the burden of the debt. I'm worried they won't be able to ride that tiger.
How well I know! I don't use any sort of illicit drug and I'm a non-drinker. Not because I think it's wrong but because, thank God (literally), I don't have the desire to do so. I have tried both and didn't care for either.
Again, my question is why will the war on drugs work when prohibition didn't? With prohibition you had the worst of both worlds. People still became alcoholics and you had rampant crime associated with it. Stop the prohibition and you still had alcoholics, but the crime associated with it was gone. Sure, you still had crimes committed by those who were drinkers, but you had that with or without prohibition.
I know I'll get flamed, and I readily admit I have no data to back my opinion, and that it's just that, my opinion, or as they used to say in the days of computer bulletin boards, IMHO.
That can be said in various ways, for instance quality of life will plummet. Or one must work three jobs to keep the family going. Or one loses one's better paying job and takes a lesser one. Or whatever; all abstracted to one's loss of material "power".
This is due to many political causes, foremost of which is taking on the burden of millions of illegal immigrants, and government redistribution of money to the indolent and irresponsible. How obvious is it?
But inflation in the economists' lexicon, particularly the government economists' lexicon can, through statistical data and definitions, be made to appear however "they" want it to appear. For instance the cost of home heating and food may be increasing astronomically, but the cost of a home computer or celphone may be falling precipitously. An algorithm that says both are necessary "home" items can then say through weighted averaging there is little inflation. While all the time one's cost of survival, and sacrifice of niceties, is exploding.
Such sophistry, like a poster above relates, is done all the time. One reasonably reliable way to see through this is to monitor what the dollar can purchase in terms of material prosperity relative to other specific national currencies. Specific in the sense there are some wise conservative societies (nations) doing well, and there are many not so much.
The political way out of the inflationary spiral for the United States is development of its energy resources, fossil, nuclear, renewable, so it can tell the rest of the world in that regard to go to hell, and slashing of government socialistic manipulation so that those who are most creative, energetic, innovative, are free to excel. How obvious is it?
Which of course is not saying anything that fifty percent of attendees on Free Republic don't already know. And once one sees it it becomes clear how truly sinister Barack Obama's administration really is, and how close the communistic model of the Soviet Union really is. (Although giving some benefit of doubt to BO himself, he, like Brad Pitt, is just being used through his Ego, to further a truly ugly cabal behind him).
But this is more or less a conservative (honest) forum, and fifty percent of that is not a lot of citizens. As cited elsewhere from Revenge of the Sith, " so this is how liberty dies, to thunderous applause." We will add, the thunderous applause of the LEFT.

But I am with you on legalization so I get called POTHEAD and CRACKHEAD by the hypocrites that use liquid drugs ( and won’t admit they are using a drug )
