August 30, 2009 (GLENVIEW, Ill.) (WLS) -- Republican Congressman Mark Kirk received a big endorsement Sunday in his bid for the U.S. Senate.
Former presidential candidate and current Arizona Sen. John McCain was in the Chicago area to help give Kirk's campaign a financial and political boost.
Kirk is among more than six people who have announced their candidacy for the February 2nd GOP nomination, all hoping to take the seat that will be given up by appointed Democratic Sen. Roland Burris.
The Senate seat is one Republicans want badly. So, voters are likely to see the national Republican Party pouring a lot of money in the race. The endorsement from John McCain does not come as a big surprise. Mark Kirk and John McCain are long-time friends. Both have similar positions on many issues and both are Navy veterans.

And I'll enjoy watching the crash debris of the GOP as they lose more seats and remain out of power.
Yeah—That’s it—Snag the endorsement of a loser in your bid for office—Brilliant!
Didn’t Kirk surrender the U.S. to the Chinese or something similar? If McCain likes him, count me out of supporting him.
No one said Kirk was smart.
I won’t enjoy that at all ... I’d rather enjoy seeing something like “SURPRISE UPSET - Kirk loses primary bid to conservative GOP candidate”
Any contenders worth touting?

If freepers from outside Illinois could lend support any way you can, it would be very appreciated. The liberal media here is in the tank for Mark Kirk, and he's the lone “Republican” they ever promote.
The Chicago machine will ensure that the rats retain that seat.
Their ace in the hole is that if the general election comes down to Giannoulias vs. Kirk, the RATs will retain that seat regardless of which candidate wins. "Republican" Mark Kirk is a loyal vote for the Obama agenda.
He’s that bad?
Kirk voted yes on Cap and Tax.
I have the chance to vote against him, and I’m going to take it. I’m going to encourage others to do the same. Mark Kirk, if you or any of your staffers read this, your loss is sealed by your betrayal.
As I said yesterday, he can kiss my conservative @$$.

Why this guy claims to be a “Republican” is beyond me.
Oh yeah. Calling Kirk a RINO is an insult to RINOs. Most RINOs have some degrees of conservatism in them. Kirk is truly a leftist.
Thanks for the info.
Is there no way for a political party to refuse to let a person who doesn’t meet basic party platform minimum standards bear the party name?
Oh, boy. (adopting weird Boston accent in a voice sounding a lot like the mayor on the Simpsons) "Let the word go forth, from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, the torch has been passed to a new generation..."
McCain isn’t a RINO. He’s pro-life, pro-gun rights, and pro-spending cuts, unlike Kirk. McCain endorsed someone who usually disagrees with him, like State Sen. Matt Murphy and State Rep. Jo Ann Osmond.
