Mysterious Glaciers That Grew When Asia Heated Up

ScienceDaily (Aug. 29, 2009) — Ice, when heated, is supposed to melt.

That’s why a collection of glaciers in the Southeast Himalayas stymies those who know what they did 9,000 years ago. While most other Central Asian glaciers retreated under hotter summer temperatures, this group of glaciers advanced from one to six kilometers.

A new study by BYU geologist Summer Rupper pieces together the chain of events surrounding the unexpected glacial growth.

“Stronger monsoons were thought to be responsible,” said Rupper, who reports her findings in the September issue of the journal Quaternary Research. “Our research indicates the extra snowfall from monsoonal effects can only take credit for up to 30 percent of the glacial advance.

How about the fact that when temperatures are around zero (F), even if it warms up twenty degrees, water remains ice. Perhaps glacier growth could be related to moisture more than temperature?

Shrinking Glaciers -- evidence in support of GW.
Advancing Glaciers -- evidence in support of GW.

Lucrative research grants -- evidence in support of GW on demand.

I think I am going to change carreers- I write computer software- and so I can program ANYTHING I want and as long as the result = Global Warming, I am guessing I’ll get paid.

It so easy to prgram when you know the answer already too!!

Yes, in fact. The interior of Antarctica is completely dry because no moisture reaches it. And any ice that does exist will sublimate away.

So what? Glaciers are alwys retreating an advancing - the Hindus have stories about the Great White Serpent which wrapped those mountains going back to 16,000 BC.

Further:
Tamili great deluge periods:
1st: 16,000 B.C.;
2nd: 14,058 B.C.;
3rd: 9564 B.C. - within 40 years of Plato’s sinking of Atlantis (9600 B.C.).

Maybe, its like icicles. As it warms up, they begin to lengthen and gravity pulls them down and stretches them out.

parsy, who has watched this phenomenon

This whole study something has become a huge scam. Every time you hear “more study is needed” it means that we want more public money. All these studies are about getting more money for more studies which we will hype by the liberal media.

Never ending cycle.

“Maybe, its like icicles. As it warms up, they begin to lengthen and gravity pulls them down and stretches them out.”

Good grief, no! You are not serious about this, are you? The icicles grow because water drips down then and freezes. It is hot on the roof, where the snow is melting in the day, and the meltwater drips off the eves and freezes there.

Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Icicle

The Coming and Going of Glaciers
A New Alpine Melt Theory
By Hilmar Schmundt

The Alpine glaciers are shrinking, that much we know. But new research suggests that in the time of the Roman Empire, they were smaller than today. And 7,000 years ago they probably weren’t around at all. A group of climatologists have come up with a controversial new theory on how the Alps must have looked over the ages.
